What is a communication intern?

Communication Interns are entry-level professionals, often students or recent graduates, who support an organization's communication efforts. They typically assist with writing press releases, managing social media, coordinating events, and conducting research. The role offers hands-on experience in public relations, media relations, and corporate communications, helping interns develop crucial skills for a career in communications. Communication Interns often work closely with communication teams to learn industry best practices and gain practical, real-world experience.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a communication intern?

To thrive as a Communication Intern, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by coursework in communications, public relations, or journalism. Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems, and basic graphic design or analytics tools is typically required. Adaptability, creativity, and effective collaboration help interns stand out in dynamic team environments. These skills are essential for crafting clear messages, supporting organizational goals, and developing professional communication abilities.

What types of projects and tasks can a communication intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Communication Intern, you can expect to participate in a variety of projects such as drafting press releases, assisting with social media content creation, helping organize events, and monitoring media coverage. These responsibilities provide valuable, hands-on experience in both written and verbal communication, as well as exposure to the fast-paced environment typical of communication departments.

Can you get a communication internship with no experience?

Yes, communication internships often accept applicants with little or no prior experience, focusing instead on strong communication skills, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. Demonstrating relevant coursework, volunteer work, or personal projects can also improve your chances of securing an internship without previous experience.

Job description

Intern Architect / Graduate Architect

Competitive Salary + Benefits | Calgary, Alberta
Architecture & Design

We are excited to be working with a highly regarded and award-winning architecture practice in Calgary that is looking to add an ambitious Intern Architect or recently registered Graduate Architect to its growing team.

With a diverse portfolio spanning projects across Canada, the firm is recognized for delivering thoughtful, contemporary and technically sophisticated design. This is an excellent opportunity for an architect who wants to work alongside experienced industry leaders, contribute to meaningful projects and build toward the next stage of their career.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Joining a collaborative and design-focused team, you will have the opportunity to contribute throughout the project lifecycle — from early concept development and presentations through to technical documentation, construction and project delivery.

Working closely with senior members of the practice, you will:

  • Assist in developing innovative, practical and visually compelling architectural solutions.
  • Contribute to projects from concept and schematic design through detailed design and construction documentation.
  • Produce high-quality drawings, details and construction documents using Revit.
  • Prepare design presentations, drawings and supporting materials and participate in client presentations.
  • Help resolve design, technical and coordination challenges alongside the broader project team.
  • Apply Canadian building codes and standards throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Integrate sustainable design principles and strategies into project solutions.
  • Assist with project planning, reports, estimates, calculations and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Participate in construction administration, site reviews and project meetings.
  • Monitor project progress, budgets and schedules while helping identify and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with consultants, clients, contractors, municipal authorities and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and contribute ideas that help move projects forward.
  • Build strong working relationships across the practice and contribute to a positive, collaborative studio environment.

WHAT YOU BRING

We are looking for an architect who combines strong design capability with a genuine interest in technical development and project delivery.

Ideally, you will have:

  • 0–7 years of professional architectural experience, with approximately 3+ years of experience working with Canadian building codes preferred.
  • Eligibility for registration with the AAA, or current AAA registration.
  • A degree in Architecture or a closely related qualification.
  • Experience across a variety of project types and scales.
  • Solid proficiency in Revit and confidence producing architectural documentation.
  • Strong design, presentation and communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach and a willingness to take ownership.
  • The confidence and interpersonal skills to work with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • A clear interest in continued professional development and progression.

WHY JOIN?

This is an opportunity to join a firm where professional development, mentorship and design excellence are genuinely valued.

You will benefit from:

  • A competitive compensation package with comprehensive benefits and bonus potential.
  • Structured support toward completing your AAA registration requirements.
  • Access to ongoing professional education and opportunities to expand your technical and design skillset.
  • Close mentorship from an experienced and highly respected leadership team.
  • Exposure to an impressive portfolio of projects across multiple sectors.
  • A collaborative studio environment where ideas are encouraged and individual contributions are valued.
  • A clear pathway for career progression and the opportunity to grow into future leadership responsibilities.
  • The chance to work with a progressive, established and award-winning Canadian practice.

If you're an ambitious Intern Architect or Architect looking for a role where you can broaden your project experience, sharpen your technical expertise and build a long-term career with a leading Calgary practice, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume and portfolio for consideration or contact Laura Shalev at lshalev@talentsphere.ca with your resume and portfolio. While we appreciate the interest of all applicants, only candidates whose experience aligns closely with the requirements of the position will be contacted.
