We’re looking for someone like you to join us as a permanent, full-time Senior Advisor, Communications in our EPCOR Water Services business unit. This role is eligible for our hybrid work program and based at our Rossdale location in Edmonton, AB.

This role focuses on delivering strategic internal and external communications that align with business objectives, engage employees, and enhance the brand. It requires a versatile writer who can create clear, impactful content across multiple channels for diverse audiences, as well as a collaborative partner who brings stakeholders together to align priorities and achieve shared outcomes.

What you’d be responsible for

In the role of Senior Advisor, Communications, you will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):

  • Designing and implementing strategic communication plans for business priorities and initiatives, calling on skills in the following areas: client consultation, writing, editing, event planning and sponsorship, budgeting and evaluation.
  • Creating and executing proactive communication strategies that raise awareness about initiatives important to the business and its employees, strengthen our brand and keep customers informed about operational activities and programs.
  • Crafting compelling, timely communications that contribute to more informed, engaged employees.
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities through which employee communications can enable business performance.
  • Providing advice and developing communications tied to organizational transformation initiatives and that support change management activities.
  • Working cross-functionally to ensure communications are consistent, executed efficiently and aligned with the brand.
  • Writing project briefs and coordinating design projects, while understanding EPCOR’s brand standards and applying them appropriately to all communications.
  • Managing relationships with external suppliers, vendors and contractors, such as event management companies and other consultants, as necessary.
  • Acting as an on-call, after-hours media contact on a rotating basis with other senior communicators.  
  • Demonstrating a high-performance, high-discipline, safe, accountable and easy-to-do-business-with manner of working.

What’s required to be successful
 

  • Bachelor’s degree with preference to an education in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • 4–6 years of experience delivering measurable communications plans that draw on multiple tools effectively reach target audiences.
  • Experience in employee communications, including key message development, storytelling, and events and promotion.
  • Experience in developing executive communication materials and presentations.
  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills across print and digital channels.
  • Adheres to high editorial standards.
  • Proven project management and communication planning skills, including a high degree of comfort in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills with the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization to recommend appropriate communications channels and messaging.
  • Ability to envision the big picture, linking business goals/priorities and company positions to their work.
  • Experience in issues management, including media relations and emergency communications is an asset.
  • Understanding of the utility industry and regulated businesses are assets.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite applications, SharePoint and social media and web analytics programs.
