Job description

Lawn Care and Grounds Keeper

Tuscaloosa County Commission

Location: 714 Greensboro Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35401-1859

Salary: $21.67 per hour

The Grounds Keeper maintains all Tuscaloosa County properties by ensuring that all lawns and grounds are kept to a certain standard. The employee is expected to cut, groom, trim, maintain, etc. all properties by utilizing manual and motorized lawn care equipment. This position requires an adaptable and flexible work schedule which may include working during evenings and weekends due to inclement weather.

Job duties and responsibilities include demonstrating effective communication skills, experience in planting, trimming, cutting, maintaining and upkeep of shrubbery, bushes, and trees, operating lawn equipment such as zero-turn mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, blowers, side-by-side all-terrain vehicles (ATV), fertilizing equipment, chain saws, trimmers, etc. The employee must also maintain and maintenance of irrigation and sprinkler systems, be proficient in the use of hand tools, operation of motor vehicles and utility trailers, mulching, fertilizing of lawns, racking leaves, removal of weeds, limbs, and fallen debris, participate in the appropriate removal of damaged and unusable County and State property, empty trash cans and trash receptacles, policing all County facilities to keep litter and trash under control, performs related work as required including custodial duties at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse and Tag and License Office (Annex), and all other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment ordinarily employed for keeping County property clean, ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction, ability to learn simple and repetitive tasks, and sufficient physical strength to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care of cleaning and maintaining facility grounds, and equipment.

Qualifications include a valid Alabama Driver's License, High School Diploma or GED, and experience in lawn care and grounds.
