Job description

Position Overview
This is a Teaching Assistant (TA) position which will assist faculty members with classes and courses in the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department, The TA will also assist with research and instrument development/assessment. This position may also cover classes or proctor exams.
Hours per Week
Up to 20 hours per week, maximum, during fall and spring semesters.
College/Department Overview
The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies has 23 full-time faculty in 4 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs - Physical Education, Exercise Fitness Management, Outdoor Community Recreation, Public Health, Athletic Training Education and Wellness Management.
Department Specific Job Functions
Provide assistance in the Exercise Physiology Lab and Lab related classes. Cover classes or proctor exams; lecture in areas where the student is deemed competent; potentially tutor in classes which are in the student's discipline; assist faculty with class preparation (i.e., library research, internet searches, and PowerPoint presentations), record keeping, and supervised grading of exams and assignments; assist with group study sessions as needed; and other duties/responsibilities as deemed necessary or required.
Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.
Qualifications/Experience Required
Wellness Management, Exercise Science, or Master's in Public Health major.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Graduate student in the Kinesiology department.
