Fire Extinguisher Service Technician

Position Summary

Adelphia Fire is seeking a dependable, motivated, and focused Fire Extinguisher Service Technician to join our upcoming Portable Fire Extinguisher Division. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, recharging, installing, and testing portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The technician will service commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, restaurant, multi-family residential, and construction customers throughout our service area. This role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service while helping customers maintain code-compliant fire protection systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Fire Extinguisher Inspections

• Perform annual portable fire extinguisher inspections in accordance with NFPA 10.
• Conduct monthly inspections for customers with service agreements.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
• Verify proper extinguisher placement, accessibility, and code compliance.
• Apply inspection tags and maintain accurate service documentation.

Maintenance & Repair

• Perform required six-year maintenance on stored-pressure dry chemical extinguishers.
• Recharge portable fire extinguishers following discharge or when maintenance requires it.
• Perform hydrostatic testing on portable fire extinguishers when certified and authorized.
• Replace defective components including:
• • Gauges
  • Hoses
  • O-rings
  • Pull pins
  • Tamper seals
  • Brackets
  • Safety labels
• Conduct leak testing and verify proper operating pressure before returning extinguishers to service.

Installation & Delivery

• Install portable fire extinguishers, cabinets, brackets, and extinguisher stands.
• Deliver new extinguishers and related equipment to customer locations and construction sites.
• Assist customers with proper extinguisher placement and code requirements.

Shop & Equipment Responsibilities

• Keep recharge equipment, testing equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Inspect and maintain company tools and equipment.
• Assist with inventory counts and ordering replacement stock.

Customer Service

• Communicate professionally with customers while on-site.
• Explain inspection results and recommended repairs or replacements.
• Identify opportunities for additional fire protection products and services.
• Represent Adelphia Fire in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Documentation

• Complete inspection reports and work orders accurately.
• Maintain maintenance, recharge, and hydrostatic testing records.
• Record extinguisher serial numbers and service history.
• Submit completed paperwork and electronic documentation daily.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver's license
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing a daily service schedule.
• Ability to use smartphones, tablets, and electronic inspection software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Fire Extinguisher Technician (NAFED, ICC, manufacturer certification, or equivalent).
• Previous experience inspecting, maintaining, recharging, or testing portable fire extinguishers.
• Prior experience performing inspections on fire sprinkler systems and/or fire alarm systems.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 10, NFPA 25, and other applicable fire protection standards.
• Experience working in commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, restaurant, or multi-family residential facilities.

Training & Career Development

Previous experience in the fire protection industry is strongly preferred, especially candidates who are already certified and experienced in portable fire extinguisher inspections and service.

However, Adelphia Fire understands that the right individual may not yet hold these certifications. We are willing to invest in a motivated employee by providing company-sponsored training and assisting them in obtaining the certifications required to become a Fire Extinguisher Service Technician.

Our preference is to hire someone who already has experience in the fire protection industry—particularly in portable fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler inspections, or fire alarm inspections—but we welcome applicants with a strong work ethic, mechanical ability, and a desire to build a long-term career with our company.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
• Bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms, warehouses, restaurants, and construction sites.
• Safely operate a company service vehicle throughout the service area.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
