THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Service Engineer within Hitachi Energy's Grid Integration Service organization, you will support installation, commissioning, and service activities for power quality and grid integration systems across North America. This is an office-based role focused on providing administrative and phone support to field service teams and customers, with an emphasis on responsive troubleshooting and coordination in time-sensitive situations. You will work across hardware, software, networking, and control systems to support services tied to technologies such as Series Capacitors, Static VAR Compensators, STATCOM, substations, synchronous condensers, and HVDC converter stations. The role involves close coordination with commissioning teams, engineers, project managers, suppliers, and customers to help keep critical grid assets operating reliably. You will also contribute to system knowledge transfer by supporting internal training efforts and helping evolve service processes through continuous improvement initiatives. Your work supports the safe, stable, and efficient operation of grid infrastructure that underpins power quality and system reliability.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Support service activities to meet customer requirements related to power quality systems, including hardware, software, networking, and control
  • Serve as primary support for service teams and customers, including phone triage and coordinated intake of service needs
  • Provide remote troubleshooting using system documentation and technical references
  • Support local functional acceptance testing and general service coordination activities
  • Assist with system-focused training for internal junior engineers and customers
  • Collaborate with peers, engineering teams, project managers, suppliers, and customers to support service delivery
  • Contribute to internal process improvement and service execution enhancements
  • Support Grid Integration service coordination for FACTS and HVDC applications
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines

YOUR BACKGROUND
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred (Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, automatic control theory, software engineering, or similar), or a combination of education and experience working with electrical systems in the utility industry
  • Experience working with computer-based control systems
  • Knowledge of substation products, equipment, and engineering practices
  • Knowledge of electrical safety measures, safety regulations, compliance, and electrical standards such as ANSI, CSA, and IEC
  • Familiarity with power electronics technologies such as SVC, Series Capacitors, or HVDC is a plus
  • Precise, organized, flexible, and able to work autonomously in time-critical and high-pressure scenarios, with clear communication and availability for occasional travel
