Job description

Must be based in San Antonio, Texas for consideration

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises the coding staff to include, Outpatient and Inpatient Coders, Coding Educators, unbilled and denials clerks. Maintains expert knowledge of all coding and classification systems used in health care (ICD-10CM, PCS, CPT, DRG, APC, and ASC) key information that impacts reimbursement and statistical reporting systems, and the clinical information requirements of both accreditation and licensing agencies. Responsible for conducting reviews to assess the quality of coding and documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Under the direction of the HIM Executive Director, develops and implements policies and procedures. Plans improvements in work processes and personnel functions. Assists in the preparation of annual budget requests and monitors expenditures against allocated budget funds. Promotes the University Health Systems guest relations policy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an approved program for Health Information Management or a related field is preferred. Two to five years of experience managing/supervising health information management processes, coding and or billing functions in a medical facility is required. Expert knowledge of Joint Commission standards and applicable licensure regulations are required. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

LICENSURE
Certification from one of the following credentialing bodies is acceptable: American Academy of Professional Coders, American Health Information Management Association, National Association for Health Professions: (AAPC, AHIMA, or NAHP).
