Job description

Lab Assistant

Shift: Monday- Friday, 7am- 3pm


Summary: The Quality Laboratory Assistant is responsible for coordinating the overall efficiency of the lab, review and organization of all quality paperwork, and management and organization of all quality retains and customer samples.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Daily QA paperwork: Every product for every day has its own set of paperwork. It is the responsibility of the Lab Assistant to collect all documents from the Lab techs, machine operators and Line Supervisors. These documents must be sorted daily, placed in their appropriate files and any missing documentation must be logged.
  • Shipping: The shipment of Quality samples is a large portion of the Lab assistant’s responsibility. All customers require retain samples, at different frequencies. The assistant is also responsible for the shipment of all micro samples for customers and additional biological samples that may need to be sent for the Lab or the blending dept.
  • Daily Production Folders: Daily production folders must be logged in and send to QA Manager for review at least every other working day, as it is Audit requirement to review all production folders within 7 days.
  • Sanitation: It is the responsibility of the assistant to keep track of, review and log the receipt of all Master Sanitation documents for the plant. It is imperative that all sanitation records can be produced in the event of an audit.
  • Certificates of Analysis: All ingredients COA have come to the assistant. They must be scanned and logged into the shared drive. All COA’s for lab equipment and Calibration records are also to be maintained by the lab assistant.
  • QA Work aid Book: It is the responsibility of the assistant to keep track of all changes that need to be made in the QA book.
  • The Lab Assistant is also responsible for Audit Prep, complaint report prep and gathering of all supporting documentation.
  • Review and Approve Production Folders/LCRs.
  • Coordinate ordering and organizing lab supplies. Focus on continuous improvements in ordering systems, working with vendors to reduce costs, and overall structure of lab organization.
  • Manage collection and organization of internal and external retains.
  • Log and coordinate Micro sampling setup for Micro Technicians.
  • Log current location of lab equipment and maintain PM schedule in collaboration with the Quality Manager.
  • All other duties as requested or assigned.

This employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
