Corporate Controller

Location: Houston, Texas (Onsite)

Compensation: $125,000 to $145,000 base salary plus bonus

Schedule: 4-Day Work Week (Monday through Thursday)

Position Summary

NOW CFO is partnering with an established distribution company to find an experienced Corporate Controller to lead its financial operations. This organization operates in an inventory-intensive environment and serves clients across multiple channels, with a focus on scalable growth and operational discipline.

This is a highly visible senior leadership role responsible for the integrity of financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations across the organization. The Corporate Controller will own the full accounting function, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and inventory controls, while driving process improvements and supporting strategic decision-making at the executive level. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams including Sales, Operations, Procurement, and Shipping and Receiving to ensure financial visibility and cash flow discipline across the business.

Core Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Close Process
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
  • Lead month-end and year-end close process with strict deadlines
  • Develop board-ready financial reporting packages
  • Maintain accurate cost accounting and inventory valuation
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Oversee annual audit and tax coordination
Cash Flow and Working Capital Management
  • Lead weekly cash forecasting and 13-week rolling cash flow models
  • Oversee accounts receivable collections strategy and aging management
  • Manage accounts payable timing and vendor relationships to optimize working capital
  • Partner with executive team on banking relationships, line of credit management, and covenant compliance
  • Identify and implement cash conversion cycle improvements
Cross-Functional Operational Partnership
  • Partner with Sales to validate margin performance by customer and product line, support commission calculations, and monitor rebate programs and deductions
  • Collaborate with Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse teams to ensure inventory accuracy, monitor freight and landed costs, and implement controls around shrinkage and inventory adjustments
  • Support Operations and Procurement with COGS structure validation, vendor negotiations, purchasing controls, and approval matrices
  • Provide the executive team with financial modeling support for growth initiatives, capital expenditure evaluation, and strategic planning
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger
  • Implement internal controls and approval workflows
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff
  • Maintain chart of accounts integrity
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense classification
  • Drive systems integration improvements across ERP, CRM, and inventory management platforms
Systems and Process Optimization
  • Partner on ERP and CRM integrations and system improvements
  • Implement automation for order-to-cash and procure-to-pay cycles
  • Establish standard operating procedures for accounting and cross-department workflows
  • Develop KPI dashboards for leadership including close timelines, accounts receivable aging, inventory variance, gross margin accuracy, and cash forecast accuracy
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7 to 12 or more years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience managing financial close processes and financial reporting
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory controls
  • Experience managing bank relationships and credit facilities
  • Hands-on experience managing accounts payable, vendor relationships, and payment negotiation
  • Comfortable presenting high-level financial overviews to a board or executive leadership
  • Confident, data-driven communicator who can hold firm on financial integrity
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or inventory-intensive business environments
  • Experience with ERP system integrations and financial system optimization
  • Prior experience managing and developing an accounting team
