Position Summary - Controller 

Aftermath Distribution is a company focused on delivering high-demand consumer products with speed, precision, and reliability. Specializing in quality products created in-house, Aftermath partners with retailers and distributors to drive growth and maximize shelf presence. With a strong emphasis on efficiency, relationships, and execution, the company is built to scale our emerging brands and dominate competitive markets. 

The Controller will be responsible for managing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, inventory accounting, compliance, and internal controls. This is a highly visible role that will work directly with the owners as well as the CPA's. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and brings strong manufacturing accounting experience. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable executing day-to-day operations and driving process improvements to enhance scalability and efficiency. 


What Success Looks Like 


Within the first 12 months, the Controller will establish timely and accurate financial reporting, improve cash flow visibility and forecasting, strengthen inventory and cost accounting controls, and develop KPI-driven insights for leadership. This individual will also build scalable processes that support continued growth and operational excellence. 


Key Responsibilities 

Financial Management & Reporting 

  • Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. 
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process. 
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting packages for the owners. 
  • Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement. 
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and account reconciliations. 

Accounting Operations 

  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and banking relationships. 
  • Ensure accurate inventory accounting and cost accounting practices. 
  • Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules. 
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. 

Budgeting & Forecasting 

  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes. 
  • Analyze variances and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. 
  • Provide cash flow forecasting and working capital management. 

Manufacturing & Inventory Controls 

  • Implement and maintain inventory controls and cycle count procedures. 
  • Monitor production costs, labor costs, and inventory valuation. 
  • Analyze product profitability and gross margin trends. 
  • Work closely with operations and production teams to improve financial performance. 

Compliance & Internal Controls 

  • Manage tax filings and coordinate with external CPA firms. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets. 
  • Support audits and financial reviews. 

Leadership 

  • Build and manage accounting staff as the company grows. 
  • Improve financial processes and systems. 
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and growth opportunities. 


Requirements

 Knowledge, skills & abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP. 
  • Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting. 
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems. 
  • Experience in consumer-packaged goods (CPG), distribution, nicotine, vape, or related industries. 
  • Experience in cost accounting and inventory accounting  
  • Manufacturing industry experience. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Advanced Excel skills. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. 
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting leadership experience. 
  • CPA (Preferred)
