Position Overview and purpose

This oversees the use, care, and operation of all equipment in a cold storage facility, including refrigeration systems, material handling equipment, power and hand tools, and maintenance vehicles. This role will also ensure direct reports are properly trained and well-versed in the facilitiesโ€™ maintenance processes.

Essential functions and Basic Duties

  • Oversee the work of a team of maintenance professionals.

  • Lead by example by living the company values of Integrity, Accountability, Transparency, Impact, Humility, and Community.

  • Perform refrigeration repairs, cleaning and full service including:

  • Monitor entire refrigeration system.

  • Check all freezer temperatures.

  • Do a walk thru of all freezers checking evaporators

  • Perform leak check of entire refrigeration system (weekly basis).

  • Check all levels of refrigeration vessels.

  • Coordinate with General Manager on upcoming major projects that need to be balanced into the budget.

  • Ensure proper and complete utilization of the computer maintenance management system (CMMS) and verifying completion of applicable work orders.

  • Set up and install new equipment, modifies or renovates equipment as directed.

  • Perform demand and preventive maintenance for cold storage facility.

  • Utilize onsite motorized lift and rental equipment as needed while operating, inspecting, calibrating, and maintaining equipment.

  • Provide off hour call and weekend coverage for system outages, loss of power and or other unforeseen breakdowns.

This position supports a multi-site operation across our Crown Point, IN and Joliet, IL facilities. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities, ensuring equipment reliability and operational efficiency at both sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2-3 years of warehouse inventory-related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Ability to identify technical defects in refrigeration system and all other equipment in the facility.

  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Knowledge of refrigeration and overall warehouse maintenance skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare and read documents, as well as inspect products, or machinery. This position will also be required to perform travel, so must be meet the requirements of operating a vehicle.

Physical Strength:

This role will be physically demanding at times. This position will require sitting, standing, bending and reaching. Incumbent should be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

This role will be working in a temperature-controlled facility that provides both very low temperatures (as low as -20 Fahrenheit) as well as high temperatures (up to 100 Fahrenheit). This role may work in a typical office environment with no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions for parts of the day and may also spend time within the temperature-controlled warehouse operation. Employees will wear personal protective equipment and freezer gear to facilitate a comfortable and safe movement.
