Job description

OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE: Office Assistant, School of Engineering

LOCATION(S): O'Shaughnessy Science Hall, St. Paul

PAY RATE: $16.50 per Hour

HOURS: 6-15 hours per week (see below)

JOB SUMMARY:

The College of Engineering (CoE) is hiring friendly, responsible office support staff for the fall semester to work in our main office in O'Shaughnessy Science Hall.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with the daily CoE office functions, which include:

Welcoming all guests, including prospective students and their families

Providing general support to CoE staff for projects, including mailings, printing, research, spreadsheets, etc.

Answering the office phone and responding to requests over email

Distributing daily mail and notifying faculty of deliveries to the office

Maintaining office supplies and re-ordering supplies as necessary

Assisting with the set-up of departmental and faculty lunch meetings

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:

Transferable skills include MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), customer service, responsibility, and teamwork

QUALIFICATIONS

This position interacts with all CoE guests, prospective students, current students, faculty, and staff. We are looking for students who are comfortable interacting with people in a professional and courteous manner. The ideal candidates will have 2-6 hour blocks of time available to work between the hours of 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. We are especially seeking to hire students who have availability during convo hour (Tuesday/Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) and during our prospective student tours (Monday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m., and Friday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.) Additional hours will occasionally be available to help cover staff absences and engineering events. When applying, please indicate your availability and the number of days/hours you are interested in working.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
