Description
Position Summary
Provides professional nursing care under supervision for assigned patients in assigned areas in the emergency department, medical/surgical, and swingbed units.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Oversees the delivery of patient care for a group of patients; directs and delegates patient care assignments to nursing staff working on the floor, based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff availability.
Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
Provides direct patient care from infancy through geriatrics, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
Responds to code calls and directs codes when no physician is available.
Provides appropriate, direct patient care in assigned area(s).
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care activities utilizing principles of growth and development, and adjusts these processes as indicated, to ensure optimal care of the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
Maintains patient documentation. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy. Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and notes patient's conditions.
Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment.
Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
Provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
Enhances, professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Assists in formulating and screening Quality Assurance criteria and providing in-service training for staff.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
Requirements
Minimum Education - Associate Degree/Diploma & Basic Arrhythmia Class
Minimum Experience - Sufficient previous clinical experience
Required Certification/Registration - Current Oklahoma RN license; BLS certification; ACLS within six (6) months; PALS within one (1) year; Basic Arrhythmia
