Job description

1. Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
2. Training and Experience: Experience preferred or on the job training is available. Should be experienced in the use of ICD-CM coding system or have clinical background (education). Must be capable of following verbal or written instructions and should practice diplomacy in dealing with Compliance Officer, Case Management, Nursing, Medical Records personnel and the Medical Staff. Will participate in ongoing education through workshops, inservice programs, and updates from AFMC. Walks, stands, and sits when locating records and various other information from Case Management, Nursing, Physicians, etc. Will work in the Medical Records Department and on Nursing Stations carrying a lap top computer form location to location.
3. Job Knowledge: Must be familiar with medical terminology. Prefer coding and computer skills. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written format with Compliance Officer, Case Management, Nursing, The medical staff, Review Organizations, Administration and others as indicated.

DESCRIPTION:
Should have the ability to work in conditions of frequent interruptions. Needs considerable initiative and judgement involved in collection and analyzing medical record data. Works under the supervision of the Medical Records Director performing duties in an area where procedures are standardized, but where frequent independent decisions are required. Help maintain a quality improvement system to assure effective utilization of hospital based on preestablished criteria. This will promote proper utilization of hospital resources to provide efficient cost effective, high quality patient care.
