Coding Trainer information

What is a coding trainer?

A Coding Trainer is a professional who teaches individuals or groups how to write computer programs using various programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript. They design training materials, deliver lectures or workshops, and provide hands-on coding exercises to help learners grasp coding concepts and best practices. Coding Trainers work in educational institutions, coding bootcamps, or corporate settings, and often tailor their instruction to different skill levels, from beginners to advanced programmers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coding trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coding Trainer, you need in-depth programming knowledge, curriculum development experience, and typically a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with coding languages (like Python, Java, or JavaScript), learning management systems, and online teaching tools is essential. Strong communication, patience, and motivational skills help engage learners and adapt to diverse learning needs. These skills are crucial for effectively teaching complex topics, supporting student progress, and ensuring successful learning outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by coding trainers when teaching diverse groups of learners?

Coding Trainers often work with learners who have varying levels of experience and learning styles, which can make it challenging to keep everyone engaged and progressing at a similar pace. They need to differentiate instruction, provide personalized feedback, and adapt lesson plans to address both beginners and advanced students in the same group. Additionally, staying updated with the latest programming languages and technologies is crucial to ensure the training remains relevant. Successful trainers foster an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages questions and collaboration.

Benefits:

Who are we?
Code Ninjas is the nation's fastest-growing kids coding franchise. In our center, kids ages 7-14 learn to code in a fun, non-intimidating way - by playing and building video games they love. Kids have a blast and can't wait to come back. Parents are thrilled as their children gain confidence and new skills including coding, math, logic, and problem-solving, as they progress from white to black belt. Our core promise is, Kids have fun, parents see results. We believe in these words so much that it's written on the walls in our center.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a part-time Coding Instructor to join our team of dynamic, energetic, forward-thinking minds, working toward our common goal: providing a fun and safe learning environment for children. Our Senseis are the lifeblood of our Code Ninjas center. As a Sensei, you'll create an engaging, supportive environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help ignite a passion for technology and innovation in students of all backgrounds. This role offers a flexible schedule perfect for passionate educators or tech enthusiasts eager to make a positive impact while sharing their knowledge.
Responsibilities include:
  • Coach and mentor kids in coding and STEM curriculum, including JavaScript, C#, Unity, Godot, block-based languages, Minecraft, and more
  • Create a positive and safe environment in which students can grow
  • Manage classroom environments effectively, ensuring safety, organization, and positive behavior
  • Facilitate hands-on activities involving computer programming, robotics, and technology projects
  • Follow opening/closing duties daily
  • Complete training courses on our coding curriculum
  • Perform extra duties as needed, including organizing and maintaining center equipment and facilities
  • Lead engaging coding camps for multiple age groups, guiding students through hands-on projects while creating a fun, supportive learning environment
  • Pick up students from local schools and walk over to our center
  • Provide homework support to students
  • Report as needed to the Lead Sensei and Program Manager with respect to the day's activities and productivity in the dojo

Qualifications:
  • Working history with children ages 7 and up (mentoring, coaching, tutoring etc.)
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to foster a respectful and inclusive environment
  • Coding and technology skills: knowledgeable about, or willingness to learn, introductory concepts in JavaScript and Godot. Skills in Minecraft, Roblox, robotics, or 3D printing a plus.
  • Looking for individuals who seek ways to contribute rather than waiting to be told.
  • Demonstrated experience with children ages 5-14 in babysitting, childcare, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, etc.
  • Knowledge of coding & technology and computer science concepts such as data structures, algorithms, discrete math, and machine learning is highly desirable
  • Works well with others; collaborates
  • Must like working in fast-paced environments where requirements can change frequently
  • Familiarity with special education strategies or working with diverse learning needs is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be fun, and able to help our ninjas have fun too!

Join us in inspiring the next generation of young coders and innovators!
Compensation: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
