To thrive as a Coding Intern, you need a basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, along with coursework or projects in computer science. Familiarity with version control systems like Git and code editors such as VS Code is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and effective communication help interns collaborate and adapt quickly. These abilities enable Coding Interns to contribute meaningfully, learn from feedback, and integrate smoothly into software development teams.

What types of projects and tasks can a Coding Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Coding Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of projects, often supporting the development team by writing and testing code, debugging existing applications, and contributing to documentation. Interns frequently work on smaller features or bug fixes under the guidance of more experienced developers, allowing them to learn best practices and company workflows. The environment is typically collaborative, with interns participating in team meetings, code reviews, and sometimes pair programming sessions. These experiences provide valuable exposure to real-world software development processes and can help build a strong foundation for future roles.

What does a Coding Intern do?

A Coding Intern is typically a student or recent graduate who assists software development teams by writing, testing, and debugging code under supervision. They learn practical programming skills, contribute to real-world projects, and gain experience with industry tools and workflows. The goal is to build technical skills and gain insight into the software development process.

About Us:
The Garrett Companies is a full-service multifamily development, construction, and property management team with offices in Denver (CO), Indianapolis (IN), and Nashville (TN).
We develop, build, and manage multifamily projects in 22 states — working together at every level to become the most successful multifamily developers in the country. Our superior strategies and award-winning culture span across 18,000+ apartments to date, and our expert trend forecasting helps us deliver living options that quickly find success in their unique markets. At The Garrett Companies, we are passionate about turning visions into reality! As leaders in the multifamily industry, we pride ourselves in creating communities that positively impact the markets we are in, and our residents can proudly call home.
What You’ll Be Doing:
The Landscape Architect Intern will work alongside our in-house Landscape Architecture team on a range of projects in multiple markets across the country. This intern will assist with schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration. The primary focus will be on multifamily development projects.
Major Objectives:
  • Research topics and summarize findings as they relate to specific project needs.
  • Help with the production of graphic presentations, renderings, and construction drawings suitable for bidding and regulatory approvals and permits
  • Research local zoning codes to help ensure designs are complete and fully prepared for permit / plan reviews
  • Help prepare landscape and site feature design presentations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
Specific Duties amp; Responsibilities:
  • Assist our in-house Landscape Architecture team with specific tasks related to the development process and construction handoff.
What We’re Looking For:
You are driven, actively demonstrating your willingness to learn from both from the internship program curriculum and from the team of professionals you will work alongside. You are:
  • A Passionate Learner: Eager to learn about the landscape architecture profession by working on real projects – bring your enthusiasm and curiosity!
  • A Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with others – teamwork is essential.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team of professionals as needed.

  • Passion for design.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Relentless problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to anticipate.
  • Must understand the difference between causation and correlation.
  • Like our entire team, you must be a “broom pusher”. Every member of our team is willing to work and support at all levels, and we expect the same from our interns.
Perks of the Internship:
  • Real-World Experience
  • Mentorship: Learn from industry experts and build relationships that will help facilitate your career.
