Job description

The MEP Plan Reviewer will perform technical reviews of construction documents for compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State, local amendments, and applicable referenced standards.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy code requirements, is comfortable working independently, and enjoys collaborating with design professionals, building departments, and fellow code specialists.

Experience with elevator systems and commercial building design is highly desirable.

Job Duties

  • Perform comprehensive MEP plan reviews for commercial, institutional, multifamily, and mixed use construction projects.
  • Review mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy code compliance.
  • Review revisions and resubmissions and prepare follow up review comments.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews with structural, architectural, fire protection, and accessibility reviewers.
  • Interpret and apply the New York State Uniform Code, Energy Code, referenced standards, and local amendments.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate review comments.
  • Respond to technical questions from municipal officials, design professionals, and contractors.
  • Participate in internal quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
  • Stay current with code updates, industry standards, and emerging building technologies.
  • Assist with technical research and special code consulting assignments as needed.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000 per year

The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Code Enforcement Official (CEO) certification.
  • Extensive experience reviewing or designing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial buildings.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State.
  • Thorough understanding of the New York State Uniform Code and referenced standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
  • Commercial building design experience in an engineering consulting environment.
  • Experience performing third party or municipal plan review.
  • Elevator system design or plan review experience.
  • Additional ICC certifications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain additional certifications.
