As a Coax technician, your daily tasks often include installing and maintaining coaxial cable lines for internet, television, and other telecommunications services, troubleshooting signal issues, and performing routine tests to ensure optimal performance. You may interact directly with customers to assess service needs and explain technical solutions, and you'll regularly work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varied weather conditions. Collaboration with other technicians and coordination with dispatch teams are also common, particularly when configuring network updates or responding to service outages. Staying organized and following safety protocols is crucial to successfully handling multiple work orders and maintaining service quality.
To succeed as a Coax technician, a strong understanding of coaxial cable installation, troubleshooting, and signal testing is essential, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent along with relevant vocational training. Familiarity with tools such as coaxial cable strippers, signal meters, and certification in cable installation standards is typically expected. A Coax job typically involves working with coaxial cables, which are used for telecommunications, internet, and cable TV services.
