FIBER SPLICER
Americom Technologies LLC is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in our OSP Department. The OSP Department is responsible for underground infrastructure placing conduit, fiber, and copper to support telecommunications, data networks, and fire mitigation.
For over 40 years, Americom has built a reputation for expertise, integrity, and responsiveness. We have grown to support a staff of over 100 dedicated, experienced employees who make us the premier communications construction company in the Intermountain West. Our project portfolio includes work for government agencies, educational facilities, industrial and retail properties, commercial real estate, telecom organizations, data centers, contractors, and consultants. Americom is a subsidiary of Crestone Services Group.
JOB SUMMARY
The Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic systems to support high-performance communications infrastructure. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in fusion splicing, OTDR testing, and interpreting splicing and engineering diagrams. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced in all aspects of fiber optic network buildout and maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fiber cables.
  • Terminate fiber with various connector types (ST, SC, LC, etc.).
  • Execute mid-span sheath entries and splice fibers per engineering specifications.
  • Install, seal, and test pressurized and non-pressurized splice closures.
  • Interpret splicing plans, OTDR traces, and fiber characterization data.
  • Dress and install vertical and horizontal fiber optic cabling.
  • Maintain accurate splice logs, fiber asset inventory, and as-built documentation.
  • Support OSP Project Managers and engineers in field implementation of designs.
  • Operate and maintain fusion splicing equipment from major manufacturers (e.g., Fujikura, Fitel, Corning).
  • Organize and manage splicing files and documentation via software systems.
  • Communicate job progress with Project Manager and Team Lead.
  • Perform on-site tasks including trailer backing, material handling, and equipment operation.
  • Conduct job site housekeeping and security inspections.
  • Assist with job-specific paperwork, utility damage prevention, and locate verification.
  • Follow safety and quality protocols at all times and attend all mandatory training.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on fiber splicing experience.
  • Certification in the use of fusion splice machines (e.g., Corning, Fujikura, Fitel).
  • Certification or working knowledge of OTDR testing and fiber scopes (e.g., JDSU, Fluke).
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and Level 4 background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pull and back trailers.
  • Must be customer-focused and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

CERTIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Indoor and outdoor environments in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold).
  • Exposure to loud noise, construction activity, and moving equipment.
  • May require travel and extended hours including weekends.
