Lead Inspector (Pipe/Coating Mill) - Schererville, IN

Intertek Technical Inspection Services (TIS) is a partner to clients in diverse industries such as oil & gas, renewable energy, engineering, chemical, and transportation. Intertek supports our clients striving to meet the growing global infrastructure requirements and demands for secure and sustainable sources of energy through services such as inspection, expediting, technical auditing, and site construction support. 

As a Lead Inspector (Pipe/Coating Mill) you will be responsible for providing assistance to Client in the overall monitoring, surveillance and/or supervision of the facilities pipe activities and the procedures necessary for achieving the desired levels of quality as it pertains to the project.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in project meetings as needed
  • Supervise inspectors on a day to day basis to ensure effective utilization and timely verification of the project quality objectives
  • Coordinate the flow of information between the inspectors and other including client, contractors, subcontractors and vendors as appropriate
  • Witness testing, perform verifications, and monitor project activities
  • Routinely conducted facility walk-throughs and report on findings
  • Review surveillance reports and request technical assistance, if specific or quality problems are indicated
  • Assess/Audit contractor, subcontractor, and vendor activities to ensure effective execution of the quality assurance programs and plans
  • Coordinate surveillance plans and assist Client in scheduling the appropriate engineering specialists to ensure their participation where necessary to achieve the desired level of quality
  • Assist in the development of Client surveillance and inspection staff to monitor implementation of the contractor's quality assurance program and plan
  • Compile information relating to contractor, subcontractor, or vendor quality, which can be used to support changes in their quality assurance programs, plans, and procedures
  • Report the status of the contractors, subcontractors, or vendors overall quality assurance program to Client and its specific effectiveness on the project
  • Provide coordination effort and assistance as requested by Client
  • Prepare and issue inspection report

 What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • Prefer at least eight (8) years experience with pipe related quality assurance systems
  • Familiar with/able to interpret and understand a) national codes and standards and b) specifications, drawings and data sheets as they are related to multi-discipline construction and/or pipe projects
  • Received high school/GED or higher education
  • Fluent in English (i.e. reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with email and internet communication systems
  • Ability to work well with others, multi-task, and is detailed oriented
