We are trilled to announce that Dr. Derrick Graham, M.D. is joining our practice, allowing us to expand our services and care for even more patients. To support our growing medical team and ensure seamless clinical operations, we are seeking experienced, high-energy Ophthalmic Technician to join us.

Position Overview

As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will serve as a critical "physician extender." You will work closely with our existing doctors and play a foundational role in helping our new Ophthalmologist build an efficient, welcoming, and high volume clinic. Your primary focus will be gathering precise clinical data, preforming diagnostic imaging, and delivering exceptional patient care.

Core Responsibilities

  • Patient Workups: Escort patients to the exam room, document comprehensive medical history, verify chief complaints, and record current medications.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Preform visual acuity, refractions, Goldmann tonometry, Humphrey visual fields, OCT macula and optic nerve, IOL Master, topography, and lensometry.
  • Clinical Assisting: Assist physician with minor in-office surgical procedures.
  • Practice Support: Help onboard the new ophthalmologist's clinic flow, ensuring exam lanes are efficiently prepped, stocked, and sanitized.
  • Patient Education: Clearly explain pre- and post-operative instructions, medication schedules, and testing processes to patients and family.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in an ophthalmic or optometric practice.

Certifications

  • Active JCAHPO certification preferred but not required (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant - COA, or Certified Ophthalmic Technician - COT).
  • Current Basic Life Support

Technical & Clinical Skills

  • Proficiency in patient workups, including taking detailed medical histories and chief complaints.
  • Experience performing diagnostic testing: OCT, visual fields (Humphrey), topography, and fundus photography.
  • Accurate measurement skills: manual lensometry, refractometry, tonometry (Goldmann applanation), and pupil assessment.
  • Ability to prep patients and instruments for minor in-office surgical procedures.
