Job Summary:
CNN is a leading source of digital news and is currently seeking a Senior Editor, AI Innovation to enhance their newsroom with AI-powered tools and workflows. The role involves collaborating with reporters to develop scalable AI solutions that improve research, editing, and information management while ensuring adherence to CNN's standards for accuracy and fairness.
Responsibilities:
• Embed with reporters, producers, and editors—especially on investigative and enterprise work—to build AI-powered tools and conduct AI-powered reporting
• Rapidly prototype and iterate using AI tools, APIs and lightweight code, moving from concept to usable solutions in real newsroom contexts
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to evolve successful prototypes into scalable tools and systems
• Design, test and refine prompt systems to produce consistent, high-quality outputs across newsroom use cases
• Build workflows that analyze documents, transcripts, datasets and other inputs to surface insights and accelerate newsgathering
• Develop AI-assisted workflows that improve efficiency across research, drafting, editing and information sharing
• Design and prototype AI agents that can execute multi-step workflows (e.g., ingest, analyze, summarize, and route information) to support reporting and newsroom operations
• Rigorously test all AI-generated or AI-assisted outputs—checking for accuracy, objectivity, fairness, and transparency across all AI-assisted outputs
• Uphold CNN’s standards of accuracy, fairness and transparency across AI-powered tools and AI-generated output
Qualifications:
Required:
• 7+ years of experience in journalism, digital media, product, or a related field with hands-on work in editorial workflows
• Strong understanding of investigative, enterprise, or data-driven reporting processes and standards
• Demonstrated ability to build or prototype tools, scripts, or workflows (e.g., Python, APIs, or automation tools) for real-world use cases
• Experience applying AI/LLM tools to analyze content and support reporting or workflow use cases, including prompt design, evaluation and output validation
• Familiarity with AI agent concepts or frameworks (e.g., multi-step workflows, tool use, retrieval, or orchestration)
• Comfort working in code (e.g., Python, APIs, JSON) or low-code environments to rapidly build and test solutions
• Ability to move quickly from concept to prototype, iterating based on user feedback and performance
• Experience collaborating with engineering or product teams on tool development, integrations, or system design
• Strong editorial judgment, including sourcing, verification, and alignment with newsroom standards
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and journalists
