About the role
Berk-Tek, a Leviton Company, is looking for machine operators to join their fiber network cable manufacturing operations in Fuquay Varina, NC!
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating interlock armoring equipment including pay-off, take-up, and any other piece of equipment necessary to manufacture the required quality product for the operation required in the assigned machine area.
Starting pay of $20.00 and up based on experience.
Responsibilities
  • Loads materials and products into processing equipment; checks materials to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Performs routine set-ups on assigned machines.
  • Must safely operate the equipment necessary for manufacturing a product, which conforms to the quality requirements.
  • Must read and understand the masters, process sheets, and SOP manual, which are necessary to operate the equipment and manufacture the product.
  • Must complete and maintain all required paperwork necessary in the operation including Daily Production, inspection sheets, tally sheets, and DMT/QN.
  • Must use all required hand tools necessary to set-up, take apart, and operate in any area of secondary operations.
  • Must be able to manufacture and maintain a quality product that meets required specifications.
  • Must perform all required quality control checks and inspections to assure the product being manufactured is meeting all required specifications. To include using micrometers, scales, and OD tapes.
  • Must keep equipment and area clean and organized. Operator preventive maintenance and cleaning must be conducted as scheduled inside, outside, and surrounding areas of machine and lines.
  • Must be able to comply with 5S responsibilities.
  • Operates computer console for limited data entry and extraction.

Shift Available:
  • Weekend Day Shift - Friday, Saturday, Sunday and every other Thursday - 6:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Weekend Night Shift - Friday, Saturday, Sunday and every other Thursday - 6:00 pm - 6:00 am

Qualifications
  • Ability to read, understand, and navigate through online assembly process documents
  • Understanding of basic math skills - adding, subtracting and measuring
  • Ability to safely utilize assembly tools as appropriate for the successful completion of production tasks
  • Ability to communicate and follow instructions effectively in english both verbally and in written format
  • Ability to use judgement related to identifying potential safety hazards
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate and interact with support personnel from engineering and/or quality to resolve issues related to products, production equipment and/or assembly processes.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility

Physical Demands:
  • This position requires 20% clerical and planning and 80% material handling, production assembly machine operations, and/or walking and assisting production employees
  • Work is primarily performed on the manufacturing floor where noise levels may be moderate or high and hearing protection may have to be worn
  • Eye and foot protection may have to be worn
  • Lifting of weights up to 30 pounds may occur regularly, with a potential for lifting weights of up to 45 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • There is potential exposure to extreme temperatures
  • The occasional physical demands of the position include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and eye/hand/foot coordination
  • May stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing facility or machine operator position, preferred.
