Job description

Eaton's Power Components Division is currently seeking an Automation / CNC Engineer. This is an on-site position based at our El Paso, TX facility.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you'll do:
The primary function of this role is to drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost across manufacturing operations through the deployment of automation, CNC machining, and Industry 4.0 technologies. This position is responsible for integrating advanced automation solutions such as robotics, cobots, AMRs, and material handling systems, while supporting equipment commissioning, startup validation, and performance optimization to meet plant objectives. The role also includes CNC manufacturing support, involving operation, troubleshooting, programming adjustments, tooling optimization, and preventive maintenance to ensure precision, repeatability, and high-quality output, while improving cycle time and overall equipment effectiveness. In parallel, the engineer enables digital transformation by establishing machine connectivity, implementing real-time data acquisition, and deploying monitoring systems to track equipment performance and reliability. The position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, IT, and Operations Excellence and serves as a liaison with central engineering resources to ensure alignment with division (PCS) standards and best practices. Through strong technical expertise, structured problem-solving, and a continuous improvement mindset, this role enhances manufacturing performance, supports digital transformation, and strengthens the overall competitiveness of the PCD El Paso operation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Launch: Lead commissioning, startup validation, and ramp-up of new equipment to meet safety, quality, and production targets. Participate in risk assessments, safety reviews, and equipment validations to reduce hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Automation: Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to ensure equipment uptime and reliability. Support and continuously improve high-speed automated assembly equipment used in manufacturing operations. Support in performing preventive and corrective maintenance, including calibration, alignment, and system checks to sustain equipment performance.

  • CNC Operations: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC machines, ensuring precision, repeatability, and adherence to machining standards. Support, develop, validate, and adjust CNC programs to meet production requirements and ensure consistent part quality.

  • Process Optimization: Apply manufacturing engineering principles to optimize processes, reduce cycle time, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Use root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods to eliminate recurring issues and drive sustainable improvements. Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, IT, and Operations Excellence teams to drive continuous improvement and reduce downtime.

  • Digitalization: Lead and support Industry 4.0 initiatives, including machine connectivity, IIoT data acquisition, and automation projects. Maintain accurate equipment documentation, work instructions, maintenance logs, and communicate real-time equipment status to key stakeholders.

You have strong aptitude in designing, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing PLC-based control systems, electrical components, and CNC equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. Your ability to leverage data acquisition platforms, Excel, and Power BI enables data-driven decision-making and performance monitoring across manufacturing operations. Equally effective in collaborative environments, you can translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for cross-functional stakeholders and business leaders. We are looking for candidates who are diverse in their backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, and who can bring fresh and innovative ideas to our team.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with lean tools, automation and/or CNC's and capital projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in controls engineering, PLC programming, and automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLC systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Eaton).
  • CNC expertise, including operation, setup, troubleshooting, maintenance, and CNC program support.
  • Strong understanding of machine connectivity, industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC), and data management.
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies, machine data acquisition, and digital manufacturing solutions.
