What You Will Do
The ATDM CNC Machining Instructor – 3rd Shift is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in an accelerated, hands-on manufacturing training environment that prepares adult learners for careers supporting the Defense Industrial Base.

This position plays a critical role in helping students develop the technical skills, safety knowledge, and workforce readiness competencies needed to succeed in precision machining careers. The Instructor will provide classroom and laboratory instruction, assess student performance, maintain training equipment, and collaborate with curriculum developers and industry partners to ensure training remains current and relevant.

Responsibilities include:

• Deliver instruction in CNC machining, machining theory, blueprint reading, GD&T, technical math, and manufacturing best practices.
• Instruct students in the setup, operation, and programming of multi-axis milling and turning centers.
• Demonstrate and reinforce safe operation of manufacturing equipment and tools.
• Evaluate student performance through written assessments, practical exercises, and projects.
• Provide coaching and support to help students successfully complete the program.
• Collaborate with curriculum developers and industry partners to maintain program relevance and effectiveness.
• Assist with laboratory organization, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
• Document student progress, credentials earned, and program outcomes.
• Participate in departmental meetings, professional development activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support special projects and other duties as assigned.

Your technical expertise, instructional abilities, and commitment to student success will help ATDM prepare skilled machinists for critical workforce needs across the defense manufacturing industry.

Shift Details
This position is assigned to 3rd Shift and is responsible for supporting overnight instruction and training operations.

The primary schedule is:
Sunday through Thursday, 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

To ensure uninterrupted training delivery, the Instructor may be asked to adjust schedules periodically to address instructional gaps, support coverage needs, participate in training activities, or assist with special program requirements.

A shift differential may be provided based on assigned instructional hours.

Your Knowledge and ExpertiseRequired Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent training in Precision Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant industry experience in precision machining.
• Demonstrated experience training, teaching, coaching, mentoring, or developing others in a manufacturing, technical, military, educational, or workforce development environment.
• Experience operating and programming multi-axis CNC milling and turning centers.
• Proficiency with G-code programming.
• Proficiency using CAD/CAM software.
• Experience with manual lathes and vertical milling machines.
• Competency in blueprint interpretation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong technical math skills, including trigonometry and machine shop calculations.
• Experience using inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measurement tools.
• Knowledge of advanced tooling, machining practices, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of shop safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and employee population.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching, training, coaching, mentorship, or workforce development experience.
• Experience working in accelerated manufacturing training programs.
• Experience supporting military, defense, aerospace, shipbuilding, or advanced manufacturing industries.
• Industry-recognized credentials in CNC machining, manufacturing, machining technology, or related disciplines.
• Experience with curriculum development or instructional material development.
