The Role

Under the direction of  the Working Shop Supervisor, the  CNC Roll Grinder Operator is responsible for:

  • Sets up CNC grinder from drawings.
  •  Selects proper tools.
  • Makes all necessary fin adjustments.
  • Operates grinder in the finish grinding operation of roll bodies.
  • Uses measuring instruments to check pieces as required for size or finish.
  • Unloads finished pieces with the aid of a floor operated overhead crane.
  • Change water and removes grindings as required.
  • Performs minor repairs or assists in major repairs as necessary.
  • Reports defective materials or faulty equipment to the supervisor.
  • Lubricates equipment and maintains machine and area in a clean and orderly manner.

Job Specific Competencies

  •  Ability to run CNC and manual controls.
  •  Skilled with micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and basic hand tools.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints.
  • Ability to operate an overhead crane.

Education and Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of machine shop experience.
  • Knowledge of CNC Controls.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
