Position Summary:

The CNC Grinder effectively sets up CNC cylindrical and surface grinding machines with required tools, fixtures, and programs to machines parts and fixtures to required specifications. The Grinder collaborates with other departments, reads and interprets drawings and process documentation to machine quality products meeting customer requirements.


Key Results Areas:

1. Properly set up CNC cylindrical and surface grinding machines per drawings and process documentation to grind precision parts and fixtures.

a. Review the router for the assigned work and pull the proper tools, material and documents needed for the job.

b. Read, comprehend and follow the work instructions, process documentation and appropriate drawings for the job.

c. Properly setup grinding machines and grind parts.

d. Meet critical engineering specifications and GD&T as shown on engineering drawings.

e. Ensure that the tools for the job are in proper condition to achieve a quality finished product.

f. Verify inspection gauging is in calibration and turn overdue gauges into quality if required.

g. Ensure machine preventive maintenance is up to date, and complete if needed (coolant levels, spindle oil, etc.).

h. Program CNC grinding machines (at control) and modify existing programs as needed to ensure quality requirements are met. Document Progar modifications to ensure future repeatability.

i. Evaluate drawings with GD&T to prepare for the job and ensure quality criteria can be met. Elevate concerns to supervision or engineering as necessary.

j. Order tools and supplies as needed to perform the job


2. Properly machine and deburr parts and fixtures to meet quality specifications, showing proficiency on several grinding machines in the department.

a. Measure parts and adjust machine accordingly to ensure the quality of the product.

b. Follow router instructions and properly sign-off on the router when complete.

c. Break down the job/tools, parts and store them properly to ensure integrity and quality.

d. Break down and properly store all inspection equipment used ton the job to endure accuracy of future measurements

e. Follow the Detailed Inspection Plan (DIP) to verify tolerances and visual condition are within acceptable quality levels.

f. Inspect parts before removing from the machine and fixtures to ensure compliance to all critical and non-critical dimensions.

g. Review and update as necessary, setup documentation and equipment programs to ensure the next pass repeatability and reproducibility.

h. Properly store all parts per the router and best company practices in appropriate protective material/bins/boxes and place them in the appropriate storage area to ensure part quality. Fill out time cards per company procedures to ensure compliance.

i. Properly set up in process inspection equipment and tools to verify the quality of the part post production.

j. Read, comprehend and follow the machine work instruction to properly machine the part/figure.

k. Collaborate with inspectors to check and verify the first article before further processing parts.


3. Ensure safety of employees and quality of products throughout all production processes.

a. Able to locate Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, have read and understand relevant procedures and are aware of all procedural changes when they occur.

b. Assist with root cause analysis teams to ensure that safety and quality problems are properly evaluated and corrected.

c. Compliant with all safety procedures to ensure proper protective equipment usage to ensure personnel safety.

d. with identifying and documenting procedure changes to ensure that the department is compliant to the QMS.


4. Continuously improve procedures, processes and methods to ensure quality and improve efficiency.

a. Perform routine maintenance on machines (I.E grease, oil, coolant and filters)

b. Identify areas for improvement in process and product relating to safety, quality, delivery, cost and elevates them to the Production Supervisor.

c. Assists continuous improvement teams to help drive department improvements.

d. Supports SS concepts, company 5S vision and ensures 5S is maintained within the department to improve efficiency.

e. Identify and perform preventative maintenance tasks to ensure equipment integrity

f. Takes ownership of improvement ideas and implements them as appropriate.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, fraining, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent education certification.


Experience:

  • Experience with set up and operation of CNC machines.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T callouts.
  • โ€ขExperience using manual inspection equipment (e.g., height gauges, micrometers, indicators, dial bores, etc.)


Other:

Must be willing to work overtime as required

Desired Job Qualification:

  • Completion of a two-year degree or certification in machining or equivalent from an accredited school, and/or vocational training.
  • Some prior experience running cylindrical grinders and manually dressing grinding wheels preferred.
  • Some prior experience programming CNC controls at the machine preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly range for this role is $25.00 - $30.00 and is commensurate with the applicantโ€™s experience. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base for this position. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicantโ€™s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
