Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, high-caliber HVACR Operations & Trade Manager to take full leadership of our residential and commercial service and installation departments. In this role, you will not just oversee field operations—you will act as a senior company leader responsible for business growth, team performance, budget management, and strategic execution.

As a vital driver of our future success, you will also have the unique opportunity to secure an ownership stake in the company and directly participate in our growth through profit-sharing initiatives.

The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in HVACR systems alongside a proven track record of managing daily business operations, developing talent, maximizing gross margins, and representing a trusted brand in the East Tennessee community.

Core Responsibilities

Company Leadership & Business Operations

  • Strategic Growth: Partner with senior leadership to set, monitor, and achieve departmental revenue targets, profit margins, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Financial Accountability: Manage the departmental budget, review work orders and invoices for accuracy, minimize accounts receivable, and control labor and inventory costs.
  • Fleet & Asset Management: Oversee the service vehicle fleet, ensuring trucks are properly inventoried, maintained, and safely operated in accordance with company policy.
  • Vendor Relations: Communicate with suppliers, manufacturers, and factory personnel regarding parts procurement, warranty issues, and product recalls to ensure seamless job completions.

Team Management & Development

  • Recruitment & Staffing: Direct the hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and evaluation of HVACR service technicians, installers, and dispatch personnel to match workload demands.
  • Performance & Mentorship: Conduct regular one-on-one reviews and performance appraisals. Foster a culture of accountability, high morale, and technical excellence.
  • Training Programs: Establish and lead comprehensive technical and safety training programs, ensuring the team stays sharp on the latest OEM technologies and OSHA guidelines.
  • Effective Dispatching: Collaborate closely with dispatch to optimize technician scheduling based on skill level, location, and efficiency to maximize daily profitability.

Quality Control & Customer Experience

  • Field Support: Serve as the senior technical authority, providing escalation support and guidance to field technicians facing complex diagnostic challenges.
  • Compliance: Ensure all installations, maintenance, and repairs comply with local Knoxville building codes, EPA regulations, and federal standards.
  • Customer Resolution: Present yourself as a senior representative of the company to handle high-level customer inquiries, resolve disputes, and guarantee total customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in HVACR service and installation, paired with 3+ years in a supervisory, service manager, or business operations leadership role.
  • Certifications: Valid EPA Universal Certification required. Advanced industry certifications (NATE, HVAC Excellence) or a Tennessee Contractor’s License (CMC or CMC-A) are highly desirable.
  • Technical Savvy: Expert-level knowledge of commercial/residential refrigeration, heating, cooling, air duct design, and control systems.
  • Business Acumen: Proficient with service management software (e.g., ServiceTitan, FieldEdge), fleet tracking tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Solid understanding of P&L statements and margin calculation.
  • Logistics & Safety: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive salary commensurate with skills and experience.
  • Paid time off (PTO), sick leave, and paid holidays.
  • Profit Sharing
  • Continuous professional development and leadership training opportunities.
