Day (United States of America)Job Summary:The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit, preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately, always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. The MA demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Clinical Duties and ExpectationsProvides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.Partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.Prepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions.Exemplary Practice and OutcomesProvides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.Adheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.Upholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description.Teamwork and CollaborationCollaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care.Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.Participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical assisting.May be asked to serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members, trainees, or students.Professional Development and InitiativeCompletes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education.Demonstrates leadership by identifying areas for improvement in care delivery and suggesting innovative solutions.Participates in workgroups, committees, and shared decision-making groups.Regularly reflects on personal performance and areas of strength or weakness.
