What are club fitters?

Club fitters are professionals who specialize in customizing golf clubs to match a golfer's unique swing, physique, and playing style. They use specialized tools and technology to analyze factors such as swing speed, ball trajectory, and grip style. Based on this data, club fitters recommend the optimal club length, shaft type, lie angle, and other specifications to help golfers improve their performance. Working with a club fitter can lead to better consistency, accuracy, and overall enjoyment of the game.

What is the 24-38 rule in golf?

The 24-38 rule in golf refers to a guideline for club fitters, including those working as club fitters, suggesting that golfers with a handicap between 24 and 38 should use clubs with specific shaft flex and length to optimize performance. This rule helps fitters recommend equipment that matches a player's skill level and swing characteristics, improving consistency and accuracy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Club Fitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Club Fitter, you need in-depth knowledge of golf club components, fitting techniques, and a solid understanding of golf swing mechanics, often supported by certifications like those from the Professional Clubmakers’ Society. Familiarity with launch monitors, fitting software, and club-building tools is crucial for precise analysis and customization. Excellent communication, customer service, and attention to detail help build trust and deliver tailored recommendations to golfers. These skills ensure players receive optimally fitted equipment, enhancing their performance and satisfaction.

Is club fitting really worth it?

A club fitter evaluates a golfer's swing and physical attributes to recommend properly fitted clubs, which can improve performance and consistency. For club fitters, understanding club specifications and using fitting tools like launch monitors are essential skills to provide accurate recommendations. Proper fitting can lead to better shot accuracy and increased customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges a Club Fitter faces when working with diverse skill levels among golfers?

Club Fitters often work with golfers ranging from beginners to seasoned professionals, which can present challenges in communication and customization. Beginners may need more guidance on the fundamentals of club fitting and swing mechanics, while experienced players may have highly specific preferences or technical requirements. Success in this role involves adapting your approach, being patient, and ensuring each customer leaves with equipment tailored to their unique needs. Building rapport and providing clear explanations helps foster trust and ensures a positive experience for every golfer.

How much do club fitters get paid?

Company Summary:

Urban Golf Performance (UGP) is a premier golf performance organization with multiple cutting-edge facilities located in West LA, Santa Monica, Orange County, Austin, Texas, and our newest Training Center in El Segundo. Our team of specialized professionals delivers an unparalleled five-star client experience through integrated departments: Golf Coaching, Fitness Training, Recovery, Custom Club Fitting, and Build Operations.

At UGP, we train everyday golfers like Tour-level athletes — combining data, coaching, and equipment to help clients perform at their highest level.

Position Summary:

We are seeking driven and detail-oriented individuals passionate about golf equipment, performance, and client experience to join our growing team as a Club Fitter.

As a Club Fitter at UGP, you will play a key role in:

  • Delivering high-level custom club fittings

  • Driving club sales through education and performance-based recommendations

  • Collaborating with coaches and the build shop to ensure seamless execution

This role requires a strong understanding of golf equipment, the ability to communicate clearly with clients, and a commitment to delivering a premium, results-driven experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive club fittings using TrackMan and other performance technologies

  • Analyze ball flight, club delivery, and player tendencies to recommend optimal equipment

  • Educate clients on how equipment impacts performance in a clear, simple, and confident way

  • Drive club sales through a consultative, performance-based approach (not transactional selling)

  • Collaborate with coaches to align equipment recommendations with swing changes and player goals

  • Work closely with the build shop to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of all builds

  • Maintain detailed and organized fitting notes within MINDBODY and internal systems

  • Assist in maintaining demo equipment and ensuring fitting bays are organized and fully stocked

  • Deliver a five-star client experience by anticipating needs and exceeding expectations

  • Participate in ongoing training and development around equipment, fitting systems, and sales

  • Support tours and assist in educating new clients on UGP's club fitting process

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • 1–3+ years of experience in club fitting, golf retail, or a related field

  • Strong understanding of golf equipment, shafts, and ball flight laws

  • Experience using TrackMan or similar launch monitor technology preferred

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Positive, energetic personality with a passion for golf and helping others improve

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequently required to talk, hear, and use hands/fingers to handle objects

  • Engage in physical activity, including standing, walking, and bending

  • Ability to lift and move golf equipment (up to 50 pounds)

  • Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

  • Work environment: moderate noise level in an active training facility

Job Type:

Full-time

Benefits Include:

  • 401(k) with employer matching

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Life insurance

  • Paid time off (tiered based on tenure)

  • Parental leave

  • Professional development and continuing education support

  • Employee discounts on apparel, clubs, and UGP services

  • Opportunities for advancement within a fast-growing company

  • Monthly bonus opportunities based on performance

Schedule:

  • Full-time role: 8-hour shifts

  • Includes day, evening, and weekend availability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 4+ years of golfing experience

  • Previous club fitting certification or OEM training (Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, etc.)

  • Experience in a high-end retail, hospitality, or service environment

  • Willingness to relocate to California or Texas prior to starting

Work Location:

In person at one of our UGP locations (West LA, Santa Monica, Orange County, Austin, or El Segundo)

Why This Role Matters at UGP

Club fitting is a critical part of the UGP experience and a major driver of client results and business growth.

This role is not just about selling clubs — it's about:

  • Improving performance

  • Building trust with clients

  • Elevating the overall UGP experience
