Role Description This full-time, on-site CLS Generalist and Lab Assistant role is based at Mammoth Hospital in Mammoth Lakes, CA. The CLS Generalist is responsible for performing routine and complex clinical laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, such as chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology, following established protocols and quality standards. Daily tasks include preparing specimens, operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, verifying and reporting test results, and participating in quality control and proficiency testing. The Lab Assistant component of the role includes specimen collection and processing, labeling and data entry, assisting with inventory and stocking supplies, and supporting the CLS team with general lab workflow. The individual in this role collaborates closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely, accurate results and safe patient care.
Qualifications
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent state-recognized laboratory license, or eligibility to obtain required licensure.
  • Experience performing clinical laboratory testing in core areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control, proficiency testing, and regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, or equivalent).
  • Skill in specimen collection, handling, and processing, including phlebotomy experience or willingness to train as needed.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS), basic data entry, and use of standard office and lab software.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with patients, clinicians, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work on-site in Mammoth Lakes, CA, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as departmental needs require.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory-related or science field preferred; relevant clinical experience strongly valued.
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient laboratory environment.
