The PD is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all ACGME requirements, advancing excellence in graduate medical education, and fostering a learning environment that supports resident growth, scholarly activity, and professional development. This role includes significant collaboration with departmental leadership, medical school administration, affiliated clinical sites, faculty, residents, and institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership.
The mission of the Charles E. - In collaboration with the chair, manage program budget and resource allocation to support educational excellence.
2. Curriculum Development & Educational Oversight
- Design, implement, and continuously refine a competency-based curriculum that meets all ACGME requirements.
- Ensure high-quality clinical, didactic, and simulation-based education across all training sites.

- Oversee resident evaluation, Milestones reporting, and semi-annual performance reviews.
- Provide individualized mentorship, career guidance, and support for residents.
- Ensure a safe, supportive learning environment that adheres to ACGME duty-hour and well-being standards.
4. Faculty Development & Engagement (in support of the department chair)
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate program faculty.
- Ensure faculty receive ongoing development in teaching, supervision, and evaluation.
- Promote a culture of professionalism and collaboration.
5. Scholarly Activity & Academic Contribution
- Foster resident and faculty involvement in research, quality improvement, and scholarly dissemination.
- Participate in academic productivity, including publications, presentations, or educational innovation.
6. Clinical Excellence
- Maintain an active clinical practice in psychiatry.
- Serve as a role model for high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care.
