What is a clinical nurse manager?

The job duties of a clinical nurse manager revolve around overseeing the nursing staff in a hospital, medical clinic, or other healthcare settings. In this career, you evaluate the performance of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and nursing assistants. Your responsibilities may require you to interview and hire new nurses and coordinate the work schedule for current staff members. You may also oversee inventory and sign off on the ordering of new supplies. You gauge the quality of patient care and make operational changes if necessary.

Effective time management, delegation, and strong communication skills are vital to successfully navigating these dual responsibilities. Many Clinical Nurse Managers find that setting clear priorities and fostering an empowered, collaborative team helps address these challenges.
