JOB LOCATION : Main Campus
DEPARTMENT: POINT OF CARE TESTING
SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, variable
POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Laboratory manager is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and delivering quality and efficient laboratory testing relevant to customer needs using appropriate policy, procedure, staffing, and budgetary management within DNV, CLIA '88, and OSHA standards and Point of Care Testing policy and procedure. The Clinical Laboratory Manager will support/oversee POCT processes and promotes optimal patient outcomes, serve as a resource for Nursing Staff and other health care providers in performance of POCT, and will provide regular and impromptu education and consultation services in POCT. As an advocate of ensuring positive patient experiences, they will optimize patient outcomes by providing full assessment and monitoring of performance of POCT, and by resolving issues/problems, and assessing and documenting POCT staff competency. To ensure compliance, the Clinical Lab Manager will review literature for trends in POCT, and evaluate and develop new POCT procedures, monitor current CLIA certifications for all outside entities of the organization that perform POC tests, and will be responsible for managing all of the Point of Care programs for South Georgia Health System.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Education, licensure, and certification:
    o Meets requirements for position as defined by CLIA '88 standards and the Georgia Laboratory Licensure law (O.C.G.A. 31-20)
    o Holds a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology, or medical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
  • Must be registered with a recognized Medical Technologist/Scientist certifying agency such as ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB OR other MT/MLS
  • Must have at least two (2) years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service for which the technical consultant is responsible.
  • Previous supervisory, leadership, or management experience required.
  • Flexible in work schedule, assignments, workloads, setting priorities and utilizing problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to formulate letters, memos, document clinical information, create policies and procedures, and provide learning opportunities.
  • Ability to analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues related to patient outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and behavioral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with and assess learning/training needs of various non-Lab healthcare personnel.
  • Ability to plan and conduct educational programs for a wide range of healthcare personnel based on objectives and effectiveness of programs.
  • Ability to understand the duties and responsibilities of non-Lab personnel that perform POC testing and how such interact with POC performance.
  • Utilize variety of office, educational, clinical and non-clinical equipment.
  • Current valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Works primarily in Hospital, Laboratory setting, and office or classroom/meeting areas. Primarily daytime hours with flexibility required meeting educational needs. Considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting (occasionally in excess of 25 pounds). Mental effort required to accesses, plan, and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Likely to be exposed to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases.
