Job description

  • Position Summary
    • Collects blood and other specimens from practice patients. Successfully performs capillary and venipuncture punctures, using sound judgement to make decisions about acceptability of sample type, volume and integrity. Responsible for successfully performing all practice in house testing. Follows written guidelines for identifying patients and labeling specimens. Uses computer to efficiently organize specimen collection by priority. Uses EMR to effectively and efficiently reconcile and retrieve lab test results as needed for practice. Ensures all in house laboratory testing is charged correctly within EMR. Position is responsible for lab cleanliness and ordering supplies. Ensures lab equipment is properly maintained and documented. This position will also require communication with outside laboratories on behalf of providers and patients.This position will assist as needed with coordination of care while supporting patients and families in such areas as; self management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Position requires individual to exhibit strong communication skills. Individual must practice concepts of population management and proactively address needs of patient and families.

    • Provider orders submitted into computer are transmitted to the correct lab. Test are documented and providers are notified of all findings. Corresponds with laboratories concerning issues with lab test, diagnosis and reports.
    • Routine and maintenance cleaning of equipment on a scheduled basis is documented. Equipment companies are notified of any malfunctions. Lab is cleaned and stocked properly.
    • Supplies ordered as needed. Supply room is organized and maintained.
