Non-Exempt role - Starting Wage: $23.50/hour


Position Summary:

As a Clinic Associate at the Seattle Humane Veterinary Clinic, you will ensure pristine cleanliness, efficient stocking, and meticulous organization. Working in a veterinary hospital, the Clinic Associate will be exposed to sick and injured animals and animals undergoing surgery, medical care, and euthanasia. This is an entry level position; while the focus of this position is not on direct animal handling and care, training in these areas will be provided. The Clinic Associate supports the mission, goals, and values of Seattle Humane.

KEY OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for performing routine janitorial services in the Seattle Humane Veterinary Clinic including sweeping, mopping, dusting, restocking soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizers, taking out trash, recycling and compost from clinic locations.
  • Responsible for clinic & surgery cleaning, stocking, organization, pack wrapping, instrument sterilization and laundry.
  • Responsible for thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting animal kennels and common areas.
  • Animal husbandry duties, which include cleaning, feeding, and watering all animals in the veterinary clinic to maintain high standards of veterinary care.
  • Fills medications as prescribed by a veterinarian.
  • Facilitate efficient supply management by handling deliveries, unpacking goods, and organizing them in designated storage areas, ensuring smooth operations for the entire team.
  • Assists with inventory counts or procedures pertaining to the department.
  • Performs work safely and supports a safety culture in the work environment.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clinic volunteers, leveraging teamwork to deliver exceptional care experiences and uphold Seattle Humane's mission.


Secondary Functions:

  • Animal movement and restraint, particularly related to surgery patients.
  • Other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
May be called upon to assist/instruct volunteers assigned to the department.

COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL CONTACT:

  • Commits to valuing diversity and contributes to an inclusive working environment that is sensitive to other opinions, culture, and perspectives.
  • Daily verbal and written communication with Veterinary Services and Foster Teams through maintenance schedule, meetings, email, meetings and in person
  • Regular internal contact with other departments

COMPLEXITY:

The Clinic Associate works daily on a diverse set of tasks although there is recurring work during weekly cleaning and maintenance duties. Must be able to coordinate several tasks within a day and remain on schedule with work assignments or projects.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

  • Ability to obtain Veterinary Medication Clerk License (can be obtained on the job)
  • Requires a basic knowledge of animal behavior
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Should be able to identify personal limitations and be willing to ask for help
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Outlook, and Word or willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • None.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. Position requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling and grasping of objects. Frequently uses eyesight to and hand dexterity to manipulate tools and equipment. Must be able to work efficiently under stressful conditions. Must be able to recognize problems and analyze possible solutions. Attention to detail is important. Must exhibit initiative and motivation in performing all duties. Should be able to work independently or as part of a team.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office environment: Primarily indoor working conditions in a clinic setting for nine to twelve hours per day. Some work may be done in kennels or outdoors.

Equipment Use: Exposures to potential hazards include waste anesthetic gases, radiation, cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, formalin, needles, scalpel blades and other sharp hazards, animal bites and scratches, zoonotic diseases, animal hair, dander and wastes, pharmaceutical and biological agents, euthanasia solution,eye hazards, steam (from autoclave), wet floors, potential electricalhazards, constant noise (vacuum, fan, barking) and interruptions, back strain, exposure to cold or other hazards with walk-in freezer.

Work Hours: Part-time, non-exempt, hourly position. Scheduled for 24 hours per week; the schedule is flexible but ideally there would be some availability for weekend work.

LOCATION:

The position works in an onsite capacity, located in the Bellevue, WA office.
