If you are an ENGINEERING professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an opening for you! Based in our SIDNEY, OH location, you will implement fast-paced, time-sensitive scroll compressor development projects for Residential Air Conditioning products. This role is for someone with a passion for new product engineering and development, along with teamwork, project management, customer communication, and problem-solving skills. You will support the evaluation, maturation, and development of scroll compression technologies focused on best-in-world efficiency and optimized for a new generation of environmentally friendly refrigerants.

AS AN EXPEREINCED/LEAD PROJECT HARDWARE ENGINEER - NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, YOU WILL:

  • Execute product development of one or more subsystems of the mechanically modulated scroll compressor, including but not limited to: scroll compression components, motor and protector, shaft/journal bearing/thrust bearing system, pressure vessel, refrigerant and oil management, valving and shutdown device.
  • Provide thought leadership, critical thinking, an inquisitive approach, and a high degree of independent engineering knowledge to global, multi-functional product development teams.
  • Provide guidance, support, and advise to less experienced engineers throughout the new product development process
  • Support internal/external customers and global multi-functional colleagues by presenting technical data and project achievements & updates.
  • Collaborate with sales, application engineering, marketing, and quality teams in customer communications, commitments, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with designers, advanced manufacturing engineering, and other technical experts to understand design challenges and ensure we meet product requirements
  • Develop proficiency/mastery in existing calculators and engineering tools, along with the facilitation and creation of new design and analysis tools as needed.
  • Analyze and quantify the value versus the applied cost of compression technologies in end-use applications.
  • Conceive and implement development and testing plans with an approach towards risk mitigation, while coordinating with appropriate resources to drive results.
  • Apply and support the incorporation of Lean principles and techniques into the New Product Development process.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, plus seven (7) years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong project management skills, including developing program schedules and driving team decisions.
  • Clearly and accurately communicate, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Ability to lead, handle, and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Basic working knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and how to deploy them.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for the position.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship is not available for this position.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience or combined equivalent work/education experience.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated product development experience.
  • Prior HVAC/R experience.
  • Experienced in developing high-speed rotating equipment
  • Deep domain proficiency in one or more of the following domains: applied physics, machine design, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials, fatigue/fracture mechanics, and/or bearing design.
  • Experience with LEAN methodologies, LEAN product development, and passion for continuous improvement.
