K12 MTSS Coordinator 

DEFINITION

The K12 MTSS Coordinator leads the design, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework across academic, behavioral, social-emotional, attendance, and student wellness initiatives. The coordinator ensures that all students have equitable access to evidence-based supports and interventions while fostering collaboration among educators, administrators, families, and community partners.

This position serves as a district or school leader responsible for aligning academic and non-academic support systems, using data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes, and ensuring compliance with applicable educational regulations and district policies.

Job Title: K12 MTSS Coordinator
Reports To: Director, Principal, or Designee

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive K12 MTSS framework.
  • Coordinate academic, behavioral, social-emotional, attendance, and wellness support systems across all grade levels.
  • Facilitate MTSS leadership teams and problem-solving teams at the district and school levels.
  • Develop and maintain MTSS procedures, protocols, and documentation systems.
  • Ensure alignment between MTSS practices and district strategic goals.
  • Promote equitable access to interventions and support services for all students.
  • Monitor implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 academic interventions.
  • Support schools in selecting and implementing evidence-based instructional practices and interventions.
  • Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, gaps, and intervention needs.
  • Collaborate with curriculum and instructional leaders to strengthen core instruction.
  • Coordinate progress-monitoring systems and intervention review processes.
  • Assist in identifying students requiring additional academic support or referral for specialized services.
  • Coordinate school-wide behavioral support frameworks and intervention systems.
  • Support implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and student wellness programs.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement, discipline, and school climate data.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, and community agencies to provide integrated student supports.
  • Develop and oversee intervention plans addressing attendance concerns, behavioral challenges, and social-emotional needs.
  • Facilitate crisis response planning and coordination when appropriate.
  • Support efforts related to student belonging, engagement, and positive school culture.
  • Establish systems for collecting, analyzing, and reporting MTSS data.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and presentations for administrators, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor intervention fidelity and effectiveness.
  • Guide schools in using data to identify student needs and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of interventions and student progress.
  • Utilize continuous improvement processes to refine MTSS practices.
  • Design and deliver professional learning related to MTSS implementation.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to administrators, teachers, interventionists, counselors, and support staff.
  • Support staff in implementing evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Build staff capacity in data analysis, progress monitoring, and problem-solving processes.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities focused on student support systems.
  • Ensure MTSS practices align with federal, state/provincial, and local requirements.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to intervention services and program implementation.
  • Participate in audits, program reviews, and compliance activities.
  • Evaluate MTSS program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare annual reports and strategic recommendations for district leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Psychology, Counseling, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years of successful K12 educational experience.
  • Experience with MTSS, RTI, PBIS, student intervention programs, or related support systems.
  • Experience analyzing and using student data to drive decision-making.
  • Valid teaching, counseling, administrative, or related professional certification/licensure as required by the jurisdiction.
  • Administrative certification or leadership credential preferred.
  • Experience leading district-wide or school-wide MTSS initiatives preferred.
  • Experience providing professional development and instructional coaching preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education referral processes and intervention frameworks preferred.
