Position Summary

The Project Manager – Aviation Engineering will provide intermediate-level project management oversight on airport design projects. This role involves developing strong working relationships with airport authorities, state agencies, counties, municipalities, and other consulting firms. The Project Manager must be knowledgeable of FAA criteria and design standards and be able to obtain PE licensure in multiple states.

Responsibilities include ensuring the technical excellence of aviation engineering projects and delivering on-time, within budget outcomes. This position also supports business development and has management responsibilities for aviation engineering projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development

· Support marketing of Shrewsberry services in assigned geographic areas.

· Participate in client relations management for key clients.

· Assist in proposal development, including scopes of work.

· Contribute to client pursuit presentations.

· Use CRM tools to track pursuit opportunities.

· Meet with clients to gather project requirements.

Management

· Manage and deliver quality aviation projects on time and within budget.

· Mentor and assist junior engineers in preparing final design plans.

· Coordinate and review project team efforts.

· Use project management software for planning and invoicing.

· Oversee overall performance metrics for assigned engineering projects.

· Conduct job hazard analysis and prepare jobsite-specific safety plans in coordination with the Safety Officer.

Technical

· Serve as project lead on specific tasks; manage multiple concurrent projects.

· Define scope, schedules, budgets, and man-hour requirements.

· Identify and mitigate project risks.

· Perform CAD design and drafting.

· Use Civil 3D and AviPlan for modeling and analysis.

· Prepare drainage designs and reports per FAA/local standards.

· Support construction phases including RFIs, submittals, and revisions.

· Coordinate team efforts for project support.

· Manage project scope and amendments.

· Perform airfield civil engineering design from preliminary to final stages.

· Prepare construction documents, maps, reports, and related materials.

· Provide quality control (QC) reviews.

· Conduct site visits to monitor project progress.

· Communicate regularly with clients and attend project meetings.

· Ensure project schedules and budgets are met.

· Develop technical reports, specifications, and final bid packages.

· Lead technical decisions on cost, schedule, and approach.

· Identify variances and implement corrective measures.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.

· 6+ years of experience in airside and landside airport design.

· Familiarity with FAA criteria, project management, and client relations.

· Proposal writing, scope development, and budget preparation experience preferred.
