SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Manager of Information Technology and Project Manager of Information Technology.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS: The position of IT Support Intern in the City of Stow is temporary, seasonal employment, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.
PURPOSE: Assist the Information Technology team with technical support tasks, basic systems maintenance, and user assistance to gain practical experience in municipal IT operations while supporting the department's objectives.
Essential Functions
  1. Provide basic technical support to city employees for hardware and software issues.
  2. Assist with the installation and configuration of computer equipment, peripherals, and software.
  3. Help maintain inventory of IT equipment and supplies.
  4. Assist with documentation of IT processes, procedures, and system configurations.
  5. Support the network team with basic network maintenance tasks under supervision.
  6. Assist with user account management and directory maintenance.
  7. Help prepare training materials and assist with user training sessions.
  8. Participate in testing new software applications and updates.
  9. Respond to routine service desk requests and escalate complex issues appropriately.
  10. Assist with data backup procedures and verify their completion.
  11. Support the implementation of departmental projects as assigned.
  12. Help with basic troubleshooting of hardware and software problems.
  13. Assist with system updates and patch management under supervision.
  14. Organize and maintain technical documentation and user guides.
  15. Research new technologies as directed by supervising staff.
  16. Maintain compliance with all City of Stow city-wide and departmental policies, work rules and procedures.
  17. Regular, reliable, predictable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
  18. Perform other duties related to those of the position and/or resulting from the needs of the organization.

Qualifications
  1. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field.
  2. Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework.
  3. Must possess basic knowledge of computer systems, networks, and common software applications.
  4. Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  6. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
  7. Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and basic networking concepts.
  8. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's License throughout the term of employment.
  9. Must be able to workday hours during summer months, with occasional flexibility as required.

PREFERRED:
  1. Experience with IT helpdesk operations.
  2. Previous work experience in municipal or county government.
