What is client management?

Client management refers to the processes and strategies used by businesses or professionals to build, maintain, and grow relationships with their clients. This role involves understanding client needs, providing excellent service, addressing concerns, and ensuring client satisfaction to foster long-term partnerships. Effective client management can lead to increased loyalty, repeat business, and valuable referrals. It often includes activities like regular communication, account management, and problem-solving to meet both client and company goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in client management, and why are they important?

To thrive in Client Management, you need strong relationship-building abilities, strategic thinking, and a background in business or communications, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM software, data analysis tools, and project management systems is typically required. What are some common challenges faced in a client management role, and how can I effectively address them?

One of the most common challenges in client management is balancing multiple client expectations and priorities while ensuring clear communication and timely delivery. Building strong relationships and demonstrating reliability helps foster trust, making it easier to navigate occasional setbacks or changes in project scope.

We are seeking a talented individual to join Marsh's Business and Client Services team in Austin, TX. This hybrid role requires working at least three days a week in the office.

The Client Engagement Specialist is a senior-level role within Marsh's Business and Client Services team, serving as a strategic liaison and subject matter expert for client lifecycle management and agreement administration. This position bridges client-facing teams, operations, and specialist functions to ensure seamless, compliant, and exceptional service delivery throughout the entire client engagement lifecycle. As the primary escalation point and workflow manager for client change events (agreement amendments, off-cycle renewals, and ad-hoc requests), this role drives process excellence, mentors team members, and ensures every client interaction is accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational standards. The Client Engagement Specialist combines operational expertise with strategic thinking, serving as a trusted advisor to business leaders and a key driver of continuous improvement initiatives.

We will count on you to:

  • Serve as the primary intake and escalation point for client change requests, including amendments, off-cycle renewals, anniversary reviews, and ad hoc support.
  • Triage incoming work, assign ownership, and coordinate handoffs across Client Management, Account Management, and partner teams.
  • Advise business leads and client service teams on agreement structure, approvals, redlines, renewals, and signature workflows.
  • Monitor queues, track progress, identify at-risk items, and remove blockers before they affect service or compliance.
  • Review agreements and agreement data for quality, accuracy, and compliance; drive corrections as needed.
  • Develop templates, checklists, and workflow improvements that increase efficiency, consistency, and client satisfaction.
  • Coach team members and support cross-functional collaboration on complex client lifecycle events.

What you need to have:

  • 5+ years of experience in client servicing, account management, operations, client support, or agreement administration.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of compliance, regulatory, and fiduciary requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.

What makes you stand out?

  • Experience in insurance or financial services client servicing or operations.
  • Experience with DocuSign CLM, SharePoint, Power Platform, or workflow automation tools.
  • Experience coaching teams, leading process improvements, and using AI tools in a professional setting.

Why join our team:

  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
