Project Overview:

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. M&T is an exciting and growing business unit that serves customers in the semiconductor, data centre, life sciences, and electric vehicle markets. Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. #LI-ME1

Major Responsibilities:
  • As directed, manages complex interactions among multiple Bechtel entities or client-mandated collaborations with other contractors as required. 
  • Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs). 
  • Prepares and/or reviews Cleanrooms equipment specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations and award recommendations. 
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and subcontractors. 
  • Primary responsibility includes managing the Cleanrooms subcontracts and design interfaces. 
  • Possess thorough knowledge of owner-specific design requirements, relevant local regulations, and constructability considerations. 
  • Review and verify work completed by subordinate engineers and subcontractors. 
  • Addressing issues as they arise during project execution 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A recognized degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional license in engineering from a recognized licensing board (or international equivalent) is preferred with 10+ years of progressive work experience.
  • Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Experience of 3D modeling tools like Revit, Navisworks, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in industry and regulatory codes and standards, as well as facilitating coordination for necessary approvals.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Prior Cleanrooms / HVAC design and installation experience in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductors, Life Sciences / Pharma is highly preferred.
  • Must have the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • This role is part of the resident engineering team based at the project jobsite.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent), with minimum 10 (ten) years of Dry systems experience and specialization in cleanrooms.
  • In depth knowledge of equipment packages such as Air Handling Systems, Air Condensing units, Variable Air Volume Units and ISO Cleanroom design and installation requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of International standard for cleanrooms and associated controlled environments (ISO 14644 1 thru’ 14), Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST-RP-CC001, 002, 006, 007, 012, 021, 034) for Cleanrooms and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), SMACNA and International Mechanical Code (IMC) standards for HVAC and Air Handling Units.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site confidently, and to provide instructions on resolving issues.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of HVAC / Cleanrooms design requirements including sizing of buildings, HVAC equipment selection, filter selection appropriate for the ISO classification, ASHRAE and SMACNA requirements.
  • Able to interface with home office design team to ensure that the Cleanrooms subcontractor’s installation is in compliance with the project design requirements.
  • Manage Cleanrooms related engineering issues with subcontractors at the jobsite.
