Position Title:  Paraprofessional - Instructional CLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) 
Non-Exempt
Site: Montrose High School
Direct Supervisor: School Principal
Contracted Term Length:  Para: CLD: 183 Days 
Salary Schedule: Building Level Support: Para (range $19.00 - $23.40/hour based on the 25/26 Salary Schedules and related experience)
Start Date: August 12, 2026 (may be limited term)

Summary of Position:
This Instructional position will work under the building CLD Teacher and School Principal to assist Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students. A paraprofessional will be asked to perform a variety of instructional activities and will need to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences. Additionally, this position will be asked to perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for teachers/staff.  This position requires working in the Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms and possibly moving throughout the building.  Additionally, the person in this position should be comfortable with technology and basic technology problem solving. Bi-lingual skills, strongly preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
























  • Tutor individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities.
  • Collaboration with building CLD teacher.
  • Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises.
  • Monitor and assist students in drill, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
  • Direct students into safe learning activities and functions and assist in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors.
  • Assist in the management of student behavior using positive strategies and techniques.
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or small groups of students.
  • Maintain a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
  • Operate and assist students in the operation of a variety of instructional media machines and equipment.
  • May administer and score a variety of criterion referenced and general aptitude tests and records the test results.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
  • May participate in parent conferences and other student progress report activities if requested.
  • The paraprofessional will be required to do other related work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:

  • Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics
  • Student behavior management strategies and techniques
  • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar
  • Basic arithmetical concepts
  • Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and a second language, as required by the assignment
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment
  • Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults

Experience and Education:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Experience:
Prefer One year of paid or volunteer experience working with groups of children.
Education:
Equivalent of 48 credit hours from an accredited college/university, an Associates Degree from an accredited college/university preferred, but not required.

  • Work is performed in a standard classroom setting with some work being performed at various District properties and off-site locations.
  • Heavy lifting, bending, stooping, sitting, standing for long periods of time may be required.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
