The OPPORTUNITY
Leverage your industry experience and join our team in this Commercial Claims Adjuster role! We are seeking an experienced commercial claims adjuster to provide front-line customer-focused handling for our covered territories. This adjuster will be responsible for all aspects of coverage, investigation, negotiation, and resolution within established best practices while utilizing independent judgment in decision-making and managing the claim promptly and thoroughly from inception through closure. Because the success of our company is rooted in teamwork, the way we care about the people we work with and serve, this hybrid role will work in our Raleigh office a minimum of two days with the flexibility of working from home the remaining three days.
Your WORK as a Commercial Claims Adjuster will make a difference by:
  • Handling all aspects of investigation and settlement of assigned claims to include interviewing all involved parties; reviewing property damage estimates; evaluating and making recommendations regarding coverage of claims; determining liability and the total value of claims; negotiating settlements and making recommendations regarding litigation; with a focus on prompt resolution and exceptional customer service. Calculating and paying appropriate benefits promptly. Proactively managing claim costs, expenses, and the activity of assigned outside vendors.
  • Analyzing the case facts to establish timely and accurate case reserves and identifies possible fraud or abuse throughout a claim.
  • Monitoring and adhering to claim file diaries, consistently creating a written plan of action to facilitate ongoing claim management, quick resolution, and best possible outcome.
  • Interacting regularly with agents/brokers, insureds, Risk Management, and Underwriting Department
  • Ensuring timely and independent compliance with all management directives and performance management standards
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending Builders Mutual sponsored training classes

Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
  • 3+ years of commercial claims handling experience which may include general liability or commercial auto liability claims.
  • Experience handling minor to complex general liability and commercial auto claims in the residential/commercial construction industry is preferred.
  • NC Adjuster License or reciprocal state license required; additional licenses and experience in our footprint a plus.
  • BA/BS Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and claims experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills including the understanding of coverage and the ability to analyze and interpret contracts and coverage forms.
  • Proficient in the use and knowledge of MS Office software; knowledge of policy processing and imaging systems
  • Pursuit of, or ability to pursue, AIC, ARM, or CPCU certification, working knowledge of a claims management system is a plus.
