The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a senior trademark attorney for 3M, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Creating and managing global brand protection programs, including online enforcement programs, anti-generic programs, global Customs enforcement, online to offline enforcement, counterfeit investigations and managing civil and criminal anti-counterfeit actions for some of 3M's most valuable brands.
  • Provide counseling and training to the business groups within 3M on trademark related issues globally, including transaction services.
  • Obtaining and maintaining 3M's trademark rights globally and working with local counsel to obtain such rights.
  • Manage a large and diverse global 3M mark portfolio.
  • Provide trademark due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to enforce 3M's trademark rights.
  • Participate as a member of the IP Operations team to standardize and streamline trademark processes and setting and implementing operational and strategic initiatives for the 3M mark.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Minimum Ten (10) years of law firm, trademark office, and/or in-house experience in a private, public, government, or military environment
  • Admitted to practice in Minnesota or eligible for admission within six months of employment

  • Business acumen and an ability to provide legal and compliance advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization including business line leaders, regional heads, and senior management

  • High energy and a dedication to responsive client service

  • Strong academic credentials

Work location:

  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international

Relocation: Is not authorized
