Job description
Associate Attorney
We are partnering with an established and growing regional law firm to identify a motivated Associate Attorney to join its creditors’ rights practice. This opportunity is ideal for an early-career attorney who is eager to gain hands-on litigation experience while managing matters from initial filing through post-judgment enforcement.
Our client is seeking a professional who consistently produces high-caliber legal work, communicates effectively with all stakeholders, and takes ownership of their caseload. The firm values attorneys who act with integrity, demonstrate sound judgment, and perform well in a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment. This role is particularly well-suited for a newly admitted attorney or someone within their first few years of practice.
Position Overview
The Associate Attorney will be responsible for overseeing creditors’ rights matters from inception through resolution, including post-judgment remedies. The role involves direct client representation, courtroom appearances, negotiation with opposing counsel, and collaboration with firm leadership to ensure cases progress efficiently and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a substantial caseload of creditors’ rights and related civil litigation matters from initial pleadings through judgment and post-judgment execution.
- Communicate with customers and opposing parties in a respectful, solutions-driven manner, with a focus on developing fair and sustainable payment resolutions where appropriate.
- Conduct legal research; analyze statutes, regulations, and case law; and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and internal legal analyses.
- Advocate on behalf of clients through oral argument and court appearances, demonstrating professionalism and preparedness.
- Identify legal, procedural, and regulatory risks and provide practical guidance on mitigation strategies.
- Negotiate with opposing counsel to resolve matters efficiently and cost-effectively while protecting client interests.
- Travel to courts across Ohio, as needed, to attend hearings, conferences, and other judicial proceedings.
- Work closely with the Managing Attorney to report on case activity, outcomes, and overall performance metrics.
- Maintain organized files and adhere to internal processes, court rules, and compliance standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Active license to practice law in Ohio
- Eligibility to waive into additional states within the firm’s multi-state footprint through UBE score transfer or reciprocity, including: NC, SC, TN, MI, PA, RI, MD, VA, GA, OH, and FL.
- Zero to three years of legal experience in creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, collections, civil litigation, or a closely related practice area; courtroom experience is preferred but not required.
- Foundational knowledge of federal debt collection laws and relevant state civil litigation procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess case law and deliver well-reasoned, practical recommendations.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and the court.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a high-volume setting.
Why This Opportunity
This placement offers the chance to build meaningful litigation experience within a supportive law firm environment that values training, accountability, and professional growth. The firm provides exposure to a wide range of matters and encourages associates to develop both legal and practical advocacy skills early in their careers.
