Company Description Cardinal Engineering Associates, Inc. is a Connecticut-based consulting engineering firm established in 1962 and headquartered in Meriden since 1965. The firm has over 64 years of experience in the planning, design, and construction supervision of a wide range of public works projects. Cardinal serves numerous towns and cities across Connecticut, providing comprehensive civil engineering services. The firm has also completed assignments for state agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and Division of Construction Services, offering team members exposure to diverse and impactful infrastructure projects.

Role Description The Civil Project Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Meriden, CT. This position is responsible for performing civil engineering design for public works and infrastructure projects, including roadway and bridge design,water and wastewater, site development and stormwater management systems. Day-to-day tasks include preparing plans, specifications, and technical reports; supporting project permitting; coordinating with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies; and assisting with construction administration, field observations, and quality control reviews. The Civil Project Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are compliant with applicable standards and delivered on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering Design skills to plan and develop infrastructure and public works projects.
  • Stormwater Management and Site Development skills to design drainage, grading, and site layout solutions.
  • Quality Control skills to review plans, calculations, and construction documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Connecticut, or eligibility and intent to obtain licensure.
  • Proficiency with CAD and civil design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and familiarity with local and state standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an office and field environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Previous experience with municipal or state transportation and public works projects is beneficial.
