How does a Civil Manager typically coordinate with other departments on large-scale construction projects?

A Civil Manager plays a central role in ensuring smooth collaboration between engineering, procurement, and construction teams on major projects. This collaborative approach helps minimize delays and ensures that all departments are working toward shared project goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Civil Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Civil Manager, you need a solid background in civil engineering, strong project management skills, and a relevant degree or professional certification such as PMP or PE. What are Civil Managers?

Civil Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil engineering projects, which may include infrastructure development, construction, and maintenance of public works such as roads, bridges, and buildings. Civil Managers also handle project planning, resource allocation, regulatory compliance, and communication with stakeholders. Their role is crucial in ensuring that civil engineering projects run smoothly and meet all safety and legal requirements.

Job description

Job Title: Project Manager โ€“ Civil Engineering & Site Development

Location: Raleigh, NC (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Are you a problem solver who thrives on keeping projects running seamlessly from concept to completion? This is your chance to join a rapidly growing, multidisciplinary design firm that values innovation, collaboration, and work-life balance.

Weโ€™re looking for a Project Manager within the Civil Engineering discipline to lead and deliver land development and site design projects across diverse sectors. Youโ€™ll take ownership of project management activities โ€” from site analysis and due diligence to planning, permitting, construction documentation, and client coordination.

If youโ€™re passionate about leading design-driven teams, managing complex projects, and seeing your work take shape in the built environment, this is the perfect next step for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end project management for land development, site design, and civil engineering projects.

  • Collaborate with clients to define project objectives, scope, budget, and timelines.

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and cost controls.

  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely execution.

  • Oversee preparation of construction documents, grading plans, stormwater management designs, and permitting packages.

  • Track progress, manage change orders, and communicate regular updates to stakeholders.

  • Ensure design accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to quality standards.

  • Mentor junior staff and foster collaboration across internal and external teams.

  • Lead presentations, participate in design charrettes, and represent the project team in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering; Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain soon.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in civil design and project management.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook).

  • Strong understanding of site development, grading, utilities, and stormwater management.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Independent self-starter with strong problem-solving and conceptual design abilities.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Why Join This Team
  • A culture that promotes collaboration, growth, and flexibility.

  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of civil, landscape, and environmental design projects.

  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers and leadership.

  • Opportunities for professional development and continuing education support.

  • Performance-based bonuses and comprehensive benefits.

  • Medical, Dental, 401(k) match, paid vacation, and personal time off.

  • Family-oriented environment with relocation assistance for the right candidate.

The Opportunity

This role offers a rare blend of leadership, technical creativity, and growth potential. Youโ€™ll be part of a dynamic team tackling complex civil and environmental challenges โ€” using innovation, collaboration, and design excellence to shape better communities.

If youโ€™re ready to make an impact and lead meaningful projects in a people-first environment, weโ€™d love to connect.
