Description
SUMMARY:
This position as a Civil Engineer Intern is one of part-time employment. The Intern will work hand in hand with engineers and designers to assist with a variety of engineering tasks, including organizing field work, participation in field data collection, reviewing field data collected, drafting submittals, performing basic design calculations, assisting with preparation of project plans and specifications for various civil and environmental projects, and assisting with project management tasks. Employee will also contribute to the compilation and submission of various permit applications. Assignments will be coordinated through the office at Providence's Baton Rouge location.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Civil preferred or currently enrolled in an engineering program with a four-year accredited institution.
  • Has the ability to obtain or has already obtained Engineer Intern (E.I.) certification.
  • Experience with execution of various civil projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong emphasis on team relations.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and innovative thinking.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other various drafting and design software is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Draft technical documentation supporting design decisions and observations, reviewing various forms of data, and data entry.
  • Prepare basic design calculations and analyses.
  • Use design software to design systems and facility improvements per guidance of a licensed engineer.
  • Present findings to colleagues and clients on topics such as proposals, field requests for information (RFIs), and various project designs.
  • Assist with various engineering and environmental projects.
  • Manage safety compliance with all clients as well as follow internal requirements and keep up with necessary training.
  • Assisting with project tasks, such as researching, compiling, and evaluating data, preparing reports, and addressing comments on plans
