Mead & Hunt, an award-winning national architecture and engineering firm, has continued to exceed our strategic growth initiatives creating opportunity for our current and prospective team members. As a result, a full-time position is available for an experienced civil engineer to join our collaborative and innovative aviation team based at our Portland, OR office. This position will include a hybrid of both design and field work on runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, and other related aviation civil engineering projects as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing plans and specifications
  • Analyzing and preparing engineering reports, budgets, construction cost estimates, studies and permits for various airport design projects
  • Performing drafting tasks in AutoCAD and Civil3D to generate plan sheets
  • Assisting with construction administration and inspection tasks including working in the field at project sites (weekends and nights, as needed)
  • Reading and interpreting FAA Advisory Circulars, geotechnical reports, and survey data to utilize in project designs
  • May assist with client contact, meetings, and communication pertain to specific projects
  • Other tasks as assigned

A valid driver's license, the ability to pass background check to gain access to airport sites, and travel will be required.

The successful candidate will have the following background:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering, construction engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in any/all the following:

  • 5 or more years of relevant engineering experience would be a plus
  • EIT certification is preferred
  • AutoCAD and/or Civil3D software programs
  • Comfortable with public speaking and working in a client facing role
  • Construction field tasks including site grading, utilities, drainage, erosion control, paving, materials testing, and/or surveying
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project software programs
